2013 335is CPO value? Need recommendations
Hey guys, thinking of selling my Lemans Blue 335is convertible. I bought it last Fall from Sterling BMW (Southern Cal) with 27k and it just turned 30 last week as I never drive it.
I've been out of the market ever since and figured you all would have a good grasp on actual market values. I checked Autotrader and saw some silver, white and black non-CPO cars in the high 20's. I guess I overpaid as mine was $38k just a few months ago, or does a CPO warranty add that much more to the resale? I don't see any LMB to compare market values other than a 12 for $30k that isn't CPO. Before I list it for sale, what would be a fair price to post it at? It has the Sport, M appearance, Cold Weather, Comfort Access and Premium packages. Also has the 7 spd trans, Nav and the 19" wheels with nearly new Run Flats. The car has been paint corrected and is a 9/10 outside and nearly a 10 inside. Would $34,000 be outrageous? I'm having a hard time seeing how the book values dropped over $10k in less than 6 months. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Last edited by coolcobramatt; 03-14-2017 at 02:20 PM.. |

you overpaid. that is the reason for such a steep drop off in 6 months.
blue book is in the upper 20s for an excellent condition car with your options. If you actually want to sell it, Id list it in the upper 20s like all the other ones you see for sale. |

CPO only adds a few thousand dollars and only adds value in resale if theirs still CPO left.

Oh man you're in a tough spot. Can't imagine paying 40k for any non M e90 at this point. And valuation of these has fallen off a cliff recently for some reason.
Your best bet is to keep it for a long time, like another 4-5 years and with the low miles it will be worth a lot more in 5 years relative to market value at that time. |

I just looked back through my 335is with Nav/Premium/CA/heated seats valuation calculations (done 4 months ago, averaged over a number of sources including asking price of vehicles on the market at that time plus KBB and NADA valuations).
Fair market value of a CPO warranty is about $1900. Talk to BMW about transferring the warranty during private party sale. That's the only way it can be done nowadays - a couple years ago it could be transferred even if it was sold through a dealer. BMW discontinued that some time back, but as I recall retained a mechanism to transfer it via a private party transaction. I paid $28k for a 2012 E93 335is with no CPO warranty and 33k miles, about 4 months ago. That was slightly below what I determined to be fair market value at the time. Each 1000 miles is worth about $140, so your car is worth about $400 more based on mileage. Yours is one model year later and that is worth about $2100. Putting that together with what I paid for mine, I would be asking $28,000 + $400 (3k fewer miles) + $2100 (1 year newer) + $1900 (transferrable CPO warranty) = $32,400. I overpaid in a similar fashion that you did, but it was tempered by a very decent trade in value on an otherwise worthless car (10 year old A6).
That being said, I wanted this car and it has the white on red combo I wanted. Plus CPO. What's a few grand if you get what you want? Keep in mind also that a lot of numbers thrown around from the KBB don't take into account the dealer markup that is a part of life. They agreed to touch up paint chips in the front end and did a lousy job the first time around. The fact that I could go back and they bent over backwards fixing their mistakes is part of why I don't mind paying $$ for dealer service if I trust the dealer. |

Thanks for all the input, even the dude above (can't expect much from someone from Memphis anyways lol). I called my local dealer and got offered $29k cash so I sold it to him last night. Took a big hit but at least I got my payoff and didn't have to sweat it out waiting for the right buyer.
Now I have a mint Cobb to sell to make back a few bucks :-) |

Just got a wild hair after seeing it sit in the garage for months and rarely driving it (have a Civic to DD). I am a big mustang guy so I'll probably go back to one in a few months once I've let my checking account recover from the car payments. I buy and sell alot, I think I've had maybe 15 cars in the past 2 years.

Enlighten me on how your blanket stereotype of Memphis residents is any different than me making fun of Kentuckians. I actually live in Collierville, TN which has a median family income of well over $120k.
