One factor that makes the AC system labor is the poor glass in the 330i. It has very poor heat-rejecting qualities. This makes the AC work that much harder, and, unfortunately, hurts gas mileage. I have noticed that the G20's AC is more robust than the F30. |

Have you guys done anything since to get the airflow better. I got a new to me 2017 g30 as well and I am not happy with the ac system. If the newer models have been improved upon cam we retrofit it to a 2017 model? Please advise guys. Thanks.

I took the car in the next day for Service. I was called the next day and they said I was correct, that BMW has a tech bulletin. They made foam pads in the system that were too large and they blocked the air. How did that pass QC? They installed the new smaller pads. AC is now cold and blowing even like a Cat 4 Hurricane (significant improvement). Ask them to check the tech bulletins and take out the large pads.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but I IR-camera'd my 2018 530xe and it was blowing 45 degree air after a while. Froze me even in the Vegas heat lol

I've got a 2018 540D and live in HOT Florida. I owned an F10D prior. No problems with that one at all. Would freeze you out. The 540D was a problem at first. I took it in and got that "operating as designed" once they checked it out. Whether they reprogramed it or my getting into the idrive and adjusting the setting was the reason but now it works perfectly. At 71' if the trip is longer than a 1/2 hr you will be setting the temp up a degree or two. There seem to be a multitude of adjustments that my F10D didn't have that take some time to figure out. I'd suggest getting into the idrive and adjust setting. It might take a few tries if you're challenged like me but I think you'll find you can improve the cooling. If after messing with settings for a bit you find you're still too warm I'd suggest dropping in on the dealership and see if there is an update available. Good luck. They are awesome cars, don't give up.

I live in Alabama where it is really really hot in the summer. Once I found the upper body temperature setting. I have to put it near full cold during the summer. When I put a thermometer in the vent it is about 38 degrees F. You could hang meat in my car in the summer. I put that setting for upper body temp on one of the 6 programmable buttons so I don't have to search I drive to find it. I keep the automatic fans on medium also because they blow too much when the air is so cold. Now it is getting to be fall and I forgot the setting for upper body. I set the temp at 73 what i used for last winter and it still was cold. Oh yea move the upper body temp over to warm and everything is nice and cozy. About 65 coming out of the vent.

AC
Hi Guys, it's been a long time since I've posted on this forum. I'm a fresh owner of a G31 530xd from 2018 (jatoba metallic). Before this one, I've had a F11 530d.
In the summer I use the AC on 21.5 Celsius and the temp at cold (in that menu) which now it's digital. In the F11 I kept that wheel at blue (cold). What I have noticed is that the air blown thru the vents is NOT that cold like it was in the F11 for example. Outside the temp was 33.5 Celsius, so pretty hot. In the back, I have no digital control, and the air blown is much colder than the one blown in the front. WHY? I am asking because I hope it's a setting in some menu that I've missed, I don't believe it could be a technical issue (like no freon). Thanks in advance for your replies. |

What I have noticed is that when I startup the car and I drive for 5-10 minutes, the air blown thru the front vents is how it should be (cold). But after a while it will blow semi-cold air. |

Record breaking heat in portland. When up to 117. My car basically never got cold. Aside from trading in the car, what else can we do to make the air blow colder/stronger? Thanks guys.

Was testing AC out today while it was in the 90s and humid. Couple minutes after car on, 2-3 on fan settings and 72 degrees, I was comfortable. Don't seem to have the AC problem.

Has anyone had this problem with the LCI models (I have a 21 m550)? I was driving home today when it was 92 outside, and the first 30 minutes was ok but it got weaker in the next 30 minutes. Tried max AC with lowest setting in iDrive.
You can hear a loud blower inside the dash, but the driver side is minimal air blowing. I tried closing the rear and turning off the passenger side but it was still weak. Will have the dealer check it out but just wanted to see if there have been any updates. |
