I'm laughing at the 'bottom' engine quote
couldntthink of a better phrase at the time sorry. But yeah I always glance at the tailpipes and the diffuser to get a good idea of what’s being driven. But as a default in the uk a debadge generally means a ‘lower’ model....
Not necessarily. I've seen enough 30d, 40i debadged in the UK. Some of us like the cleaner look it gives.

My point was about ‘generally’. Yes I’ve noticed the higher engines and trims too but by in large it’s the lower end that debadges...

I debadged my 550; definitely looks cleaner.

My view on this is that I think it's crazy. Whether its rebadging 520 to 530 or adding exhaust pipes, side grills and calling a 520 an M5 etc. I'm fine with whatever you want to do but the badge thing make no sense to me. This thing is, who are they trying to impress?? The only people who would potentially be impressed by this are the people who cal tell what car it is regardless of the badge.

A 520d badged as an M5 with a fake exhaust pipe sat in front of me in traffic the other day - fumes coming out of one pipe and not the other.

But I suppose, to each their own!

My mind boggles at the arrogance of some folks on here, what other people do with and to their cars is none of your business, taking photos and offering rude comments is just childish. It's their car and they can debadge, rebadge, up-badge, down-badge or do any thing they want to their car period. Under no circumstance do any of us have the right to offer any disparaging comments on what others do with their cars.

The 3 Litres diesel engines of Mercedes and BMW are so discounted now that he does not make much financial sense to buy 2 Litre E class or 5 series eg on broadspeed:

Mercedes E220D AMG LINE 4dr AUTO 9 + 23x £279 PM Exc £333 PM Inc VAT 10k PA
Mercedes E350d AMG LINE 4dr AUTO 9 + 23x £279 PM Exc £333 PM Inc VAT 10k

On select car leasing: 520d M Sport 4dr AutoMonthly Payment £299.99 inc VAT Initial Payment: £2,699.89 inc VAT

530d M Sport 4dr Auto [2017.5]onthly Payment £349.19 inc VAT Initial Payment: £3,142.69 inc VAT

Unfortunately some of us bought 520d so early that we are not able to take advantage of the serious discounts on 3 Litres.

Though I am beginning to be tempted

Thank you I made similar observations here. I believe significant no of people rebadging their cars are unlikely to be your typical enthusiasts that really attach significance to the difference in engine sizes or know the difference. The badges are just 'looking cool' factors.

A relative of mine wants to choose a car based on attractive interior trim of one of the models. It is 'just cool'. Whether it has a AC or climate control does not matter to her.

In my workplace, an M2 would be seen as a lesser car to 318i (the higher the number the bigger the perceived cost).

This is true, but the tax implications on the 6 cyliner engines is higher and lease cos tend to shy away from them, hence the low lease costs to push sales

Blah blah blah. Passing my personal views on and comments on a forum specifically designed for sharing with like minded people makes me arrogant? Get a grip. I have every right to make these comments, especially right here. I certainly don’t have the right, however, to approach and confront someone because their car doesn’t meet or align with my personal preferences. I respect their right to do what they want with their cars, and would hope they respect my right to think it looks silly.

The only arrogance here is you making it personal. I’m amazed your mind has the capacity to be boggled...

Now, before the OP loses the plot because our impending argument took over this thread, how about we call it even and stop now?

Tis the season to be jolly....

Never understood re-badging or even de-badging.....

De-badging does not look cleaner in my opinion......makes the car look unfinished actually (like it was a salvage/total that was put back together and someone forgot to buy the badging)

Re-badging is just stupid. Anyone with half a brain knows the difference in looks between a 540 and a M5. It's not going to fool anyone. Rebadging a 530 to a 540 makes no sense, either....is there even a discernible difference in power with those two? The fact I have to even ask that question says it's pointless to re-badge it. It's almost worse than re-badging a normal 5 to the M5.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Clearly some of us find rebadged cars cleaner at the back. It's a personal choice.

I was making a general observation and in no way referring to you specifically, it just happened that your post was the last one

Cheaper with Eastern and Western Fleet cars. I've just ordered my 520i M-Sport with them. They don't charge an admin fee.

As for re-badging - going for no badge on mine. Coming from previous M3's and an M135 i'm going to be seriously down on power. Don't want to advertise the fact.

Althought I might stick an X-drive badge on the back, i'm sure that will help in the snow

Like this! +1
It's about how good one feels about his car. When a low range spec makes it's owner feel better putting the 50cent badge on it, it seems a bargain to me!

That is a good idea. I might try that. It snows quite often here. Do we have to get the OEM one for all 4 wheels to spin?

I have debaged my M5/M3. Just liked clean look.

But I did once considered adding a 520i badge to my M5.
