Informational post. I just had my 2018 M550i in for service and one of the services they recommended was to replace the Guibo which is a part very similar to the rag joint used in steering linkage in older vehicles. It sits between the driveshaft and rear end.

The vehicle inspection sent to me clearly showed the original factory guibo had tears indicating it needed to be replaced. I don't drive the car hard at all and it only has 47k miles on it. I have a Platinum Extended Warranty and this part is not covered. Replacement by the dealer was $1195.

Yeah, it’s a very common failure on all BMW’s, not just the G30. I have an ‘18 and they found stress fractures in mine at 30k miles. Luckily I was under factory warranty and it was covered, but CPO doesn’t cover it. I don’t think they were blowing smoke, but it makes sense (not really) that if CPO doesn’t cover it then their Platinum doesn’t either because they are basically the same coverage.

An independent shop will be 30% less.

It comes available couple times a year it sells out quick because it is cheap good quality and in many bmw models
