Can I ask why you'd want Android Auto? Other than the messaging and communication aspect from your phone. The app experience is limited.

Chris
For one I would expect no need for Internet connection on the device. But as as you stated, communication aspect is important.

I understand. I wish Carplay/AAuto would not limit the app experience. I understand they want to keep the experience simple for driving, but I also think it isn't the right balance...but something is better than nothing.

So i originally bought the MMB box and opted to wait for the hotspot fix when I was given the option. I've not had ANY comms from the company since then and i've asked them for a refund now. Still no response, but I just want a refund now. Is anyone waiting for a refund and been able to contact them ?

I've now bought the carluex device above for my BMW X5 2021 (G05 X5 xDrive40i) with wireless car play. It works fine at the moment. I can use youtube, Netflix, which is all I wanted. You need a SIM with it, it doesn't have wifi. Like all of these types of devices, i'm sure it will slow down once the cache build up and if you have many apps open, but it does the job for me. I can stream videos just fine.

The carluex website says that the device linked above is only for vehicles with wired CarPlay. Did you actually order the "BMW Wireless CarPlay" version?

The link I attached is for wireless car play. I have wireless apple car play in my BMW and this device works fine.

Note: There is a tiny lag between the video and audio that i've noticed when watching youtube/netflix. I'm speaking to their support team about it now.

Does this work if I plug a USB/HDMI web camera will it show the camera live footage on the iDrive display if I want to use for live streaming or video conference? I tried plugging the camera directly to USB port and it shows Device Not Supported

hdmi is only available if you have rear seat entertainment. It will display picture on rear screens only in pre-lci models and on lci it can also stream it to front screen.

I’d go with the android phone, make sure it’s a Samsung Galaxy s8 or newer and life will be easy.
