Car Stuck in "Production Begins"
My 2023 M550i is showing "Production Begins" for over a week now. Is this normal? If so, what should I expect? BMW is telling me it's scheduled for a March 20th completion.
Also, does it seem the shipping situation to the US has dramatically improved since last fall? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! |

May simply be waiting for components
You will be getting one of the last ones, I heard that production of the m550 ceases in April. I picked up my m550 here in the U.K. a week ago and couldn’t be more pleased. You’ll absolutely love it. The engine is so smooth and refined and quiet. Top quality product Once it starts it’s so quick to finish and you’ll spend most of the time waiting for it to get delivered Mine sat at cuxhaven port for just over a week to get the next ship over to the U.K. so don’t be surprised if yours sits at the dock for a while waiting for it’s ride |

Yep, +1 on what AP said. I ordered a 540i in early February last year and took delivery in June. There was lag at various steps along the way. I did not track them independently, so just speaking from memory. The build was perhaps a week or two, not that it actually took that long. The car waited forever, it seemed, to catch a boat ride. Then, European port to Ohio dealership was less than five days, indicating to me the updates on the web site are not always timely.

Let me add that they hit the date the dealer gave me within a day or two. I was impressed how accurate they were.

I contact the bmw “genius “ on the bmw website chat , gave the order number and they could tell me where it was. If you can find the port it goes to, with some detective work you can find the ship it will be on and once you know that, you can actually track the ship as it sails to the destination
The bit that I couldn’t track in any detail is once it arrives in your country and not being able to track the delivery from the port to the dealership. Either way you’ll get an eta and from previous experience, the car actually ends up slightly earlier. I think their estimates have a bit of buffer space in them This is the hard part, waiting! It is worth it though That first time you see it at the dealership, you open the door and you get that overpowering new car smell ! Enjoy |

150 status "production begins" means your order is locked, parts have been allocated and a production slot assigned (typically beginning assembly about 2 weeks after hitting 150 status).
From there you car assembly should be 3-4 days so the 20th seems reasonable. Good luck.

I have now moved to “Awaiting Carrier Assignment,” so things have progressed quickly. Let’s hope the trend continues!
My hope is that the car will make it to my dealer in Plano (Dallas) in about a month. Does that sound like a reasonable expectation? Thanks everyone! |
