HELP! Gas door stuck closed on M550i
Hey guys, I am looking for some advice on my gas door being stuck on my 2018 M550i.
I have already completed the following things. - I have gone through and checked if there is a pull cable to release it, and I did not find anything. - I removed a module to access the back of the unit and found no manual lever to release the lid. - Removed the fender liner to see if there is any access from below and found non. - Unhooked the battery and let the car sit, hoping it would reset something - I stuck a suction cup in the door, and after pushing it to open, I pulled on the cup, and the lock was still engaged. All the other door locks work, and I am not getting any warning on the idrive system. I hope to try something else before having to break into it. Does anyone have any thoughts on it?? |

Ok, if anyone is interested or has this issue in the future.
My 2018 M550i did not have the manual gas lid opener cable in the trunk. I tired everything in the original post. My fix was to put a small airbag that locksmiths use to wedge open doors in between the body and the gas lid. This caused the gas lid to pop off (unbroken), exposing the door release. The door release is a small plastic "T" and spring that spins 90 degrees to unlock and lock the door. Mine no longer spun. Once I got the lid off, I verified that the release was not spinning and then broke the "T" part off. I will need to remove the entire unit to replace the plunger but oh well. |

I had the opposite problem, my gas door wouldn't close.
The fix is easy enough, just need a new "Gas Door Pot" and swap it over. The solenoid and "Door Pot" is one whole unit. |

I was going to chime in that it is either a dead actuator or your battery is crapping out and won't power the actuator enough. Seems you identified the problem as your actuator.

Yup, I replaced the gas door pot. Really weird that there is no cable for emergency release but it is what it is. The swap was pretty easy I just followed the video linked below.
