Alex in “legit street cars” YouTube channel has a video on lifetime fluid in transmissions. He’s a master Merc tech an$ he disassembled the trans in his cdi merc a number of years ago and showed where the issues are with old fluid. Valve body scoring was the biggest concern and his trans with 195k miles and original fluid had some. The kit he put in used o-rings to overcome the scoring and return performance to new. Stock valve bodies are just metal on metal, no o-rings.

I love Alex! His is one of the best automotive YouTube channels! Rainman Ray's Repairs is another good one.

Alex is awesome. Love that he finally got a Supercar, though I don’t expect it to stay in his garage long.

My G30 is at 44K and I am going to do the diff fluid. FYI the oem fluid is very expensive at $70 per 0.5 liter. P/N is 83222413512. Viscosity is 70W80.

Have you done this yet? I'm planning on doing same but I read somewhere that less than 400ml of the diff fluid came out for the exchange. So not sure if I should order one or two 500ml bottles at $70 per.

Not yet, working on my audi S5 in the meantime, it needs new coils and plugs. Hopefully will get to the 540 sometime in early April. I did get a quote from my dealer and they told me they’ll use two bottles. They wanted $700 for this easy job though, insane.

I just hit 62k, I was planning to do the following around the 60k mark and just haven't gotten around to it unfortunately:
- transmission fluid drain and fill
- transfer case fluid
- front and rear diff
- spark plugs

With BMW claiming everything is "lifetime" (except the plugs of course), I'm debating if I should bother doing all this work. I have the rt66 warranty which should cover me, if anything goes wrong. Though I keep thinking I should do it, so I don't have to rely on the warranty?! I plan to keept he car til around 100k miles.

I had a 2014 F10 550i before this and I actually bought materials and all to do the above work on that car, and just never got around to it (also had a similar warranty on the car which I'm sure added to my laziness of doing it). Sold the car at 88k with no issues caused by these 60k mi services. The plugs got changed at 54k on that car because I must've pushed it too hard in sport mode on i95 one night where it went into limp mode and threw a drivetrain malfunction code due to a coil. Warranty covered 3 coils and the 3 plugs (I paid for the other 5 plugs but apparently didn't need the other 5 coils). Only other issue I had was the high pressure fuel pump but that was covered by some manufacturer warranty on that engine, didn't even need my 3rd party warranty.

All in all, I'm stuck wanting to do all this and not wanting to at the same time. 🙈

100k is nothing and you most likely won't see the effects of any of these services by then. I'd skip them.

I tried installing the M oem alum pan but it didn't work. Despite both being zf76x the mechatronics are different so the filter pickup sits too low. That said the plastic pan was put on and fluid put back in at 25k miles. No issues and smooth shifting.
