Poor Gas Mileage - What!?!
Who says these m550 v8s cannot be economical…
If only I didn’t have my little sport section - would be closer to 26! |

Very solid. I pretty much get 20.2 mpg and I am in Comfort almost all the time. Mostly rural/city driving for me with an occasional 50 mile drive North and back on the highway.

I just returned from a 160-mile RT with 70:30 highway:city driving with a passenger in the car and averaged 26 mpg. On 90% highway runs, I have achieved 30 mpg with no particular driving adjustments. These readings are from the trip computer so perhaps subtract 1.5 mpg.
On my daily 20 mile RT commute of 60:40 highway:city, I get around 22 mpg consistently. Unbelievable engine overall!

I got 28mpg on a 2hr cruise with wife, 2kids and full trunk on a weekend get away. Kept cruise control at 80mpg. I was shocked.

Here I thought my numbers were good! You guys are besting them but a decent margin. I had wife and 2 kids in tow as well.
Hit some bumper to bumper traffic around the GW. If just pure highway prob higher 20s. When I first got this motor admittedly I didn’t experience all of its strengths. Highway is definitely one of them, it cruises so effortlessly and passes are such a breeze. By far the best engine I’ve had for highway cruising. Silky smooth. |

Glad it's smooth . I'm getting my 550 in early march and coming from a 540 and those in-line 6s are also very smooth and did have a concern about a v8 not being as good in that respect but the test drive I had showed it to be smooth

I'm always stuck at 17.5 mpg....but there's a reason for that.

I find it to be less smooth around town but I might be in the minority on this one. The weight and throttle are just different than the b58 engine, but I’ve become used to it. I certainly wouldn’t advise against it but there is a difference to me that I thought was worth mentioning. What works on the highway so well hurts a bit in stop and go.

I literally have never reset my counter. My car at 20.2 is since inception of my ownership, which will be two years this coming April. If I am being honest, 19, 20 mpg is fine for me. Sure it hurt when Biden single handedly put us back in the Jimmy Carter days of gas lines and prices, especially 93+ Octane, but you don't buy a V8 expecting Prius gas mileage.

I’m tired of hearing “Better than Trump”. Specifically what is better? Give me one metric that is better. I can’t even get started on this topic. Transgender rights are better. Great, improvement for 0.5% of the population. Makes sense. The starbucks barista’s of the world we’re all happy…..” thank God for uncle Joe!”. they were all pumped up with that minimum wage hike, then enter the room Joe b. That shit came crashing down almost overnight. They say inflation is 8.7%. I don’t know about you cats, but shit has doubled or tripled in price that’s more like 100 to 200%. Gas doubled, heating oil doubled, eggs tripled, the price of bacon is ridiculous… that doubled… and those items are my favorite food group. i’m glad the adults are back in the White House. I am warm and fuzzy and I feel so good about myself now. |

BMW does a really good job of managing their fuel. Those numbers are better than I’d expect off the cuff for a M550i.
Still higher than I’d like for the number of long road trips I take, but definitely fun for a car with less road trips where you can enjoy the performance! Quote:

It is comical that you think any President has such an outsized impact on the lives of Americans that they can be solely responsible for the immediate state of the economy. Whatever impacts any President has on the economy are always lagging. So you’re living with the impact of Trump’s policies today. Just like you lived under the impact of Obama’s during Trump’s term. Unless you really believe America’s economy is so small it turns on a dime… |

Logical, although I agree that the impact of a President in office can lag, I do think it turned on a dime with Biden because of his incompetence to hold the position. He’s the first President in my lifetime I can put the incompetence tag on and so much so, there was no lag, just a dramatic real time negative impact on just about anything I can think of. This country is a mess. Now let’s move this to the general chat thread we created just for this shit.
