my M340i can do just under 40mpg cruising on the highway. 550 - nothing less than 22mpg - the darn thing was showing 12 mpg in town

Almost always comfort, rarely sport (unless I'm in the mood for a reckless driving charge!). My highway numbers include miles and miles of 80 mph runs but the average speed is most likely in the 60-70 range. Sometimes Eco mode on the highway with DAP activated if it is a very long stretch with low traffic.

Ended up checking my stats and avg for this month is 21mpg. And it's true, the longer you drive the higher the MPG. Got 25mpg avg for the day I took my son out to a college campus visit 2.5 hours away, 250 miles driven that day. This was mostly with DAP on, which I think helps a lot with MPG.

But the day before, only 20 miles of short trips ended up with 16.7 MPG... bet I was lead footing it from light to light. I'm also just about always in comfort mode, with the occasional sport mode for the extra oomph. Tried eco mode with DAP once on a trip, it felt pretty sluggish while following to the point where everyone just kept cutting into the gap it created. Like you said, low traffic is key.

I would say this (bolded part) is common. On shorter trips with avg speeds under 40 mph, I see mpgs routinely under 15...even as low as 12. The My Trips feature in the BMW apps is great to track such stuff (admittedly, I am a data hound).

I’ve had fill ups after only 225 miles when just driving around town. That’s a bit annoying but worth it.

I go by days to fill-up, which is usually around 8-9 days for me. If I drive mostly in the city, I cover fewer miles even if mpg is lower. Similarly, the tank lasts longer with higher mpgs on the highway. So all in all, it balances out for me. I am happy with 8-9 day fill-up intervals.

My 328i's tank used to go 8-9 days as well, so that's an interval I am very used to, but back then I drove twice what I do in the M550i everyday...but hey I'm not complaining because I get several times the thrill and comfort out of the M550i!

Mix of 5 hr + commutes and short around town driving
City MPG normally around 19, hwy easy 26

Ha ha....I just saw this....

This is not a competition that I want to be in (we do think alike...tangible items), but my portfolio is down, not lost because I didnt sell anything, the below (sticking to the thread topic, very poor gas mileage)....and if we had a competent administration, this would have not happened. It didn't have to happen. Slow reacting....focused on the wrong things (climate doom)...amateur hour academics that never even managed a tag sale.

It will eventually come back...but slowly. Until "America" speaks again! With early voting, I'll be sure to round up as many ballots as possible to get the desired change we need.
