Funny part of all this, with respect to breaking balls… the older gents on here will understand….we didn’t have a lot of TV to watch, there was no Internet, no social media no nothing. As “blue collar” kids, if we weren’t playing sports or lighting things on fire, we used to sit around and break each other’s balls all day. Some younger folks don’t understand this concept and easily get offended by just simple ball breaking. Some people need to get thicker skin. The world would be a better place.

On the MPG convo….I’m getting ~25mpg with ICE with the way I drive it when not in electric only mode.

Highway @ 70-75 it’s ~40mpg. Calculating it based on miles driven on ICE and actual gas put in the tank.

I like an easy cruise to/from work on the battery only. The weekends it’s lead foot and sport mode.

70/30 split between electric/gas to date.

Great choice, though the F80 is a beast in its own right and an instant classic. I have close family with true M cars, F8x included, and prefer my M-lite, though am likely in an extreme minority. The M550 feels much easier to get off the line than the f80, and is also smoother, quieter and more isolated from the road with all the good and bad that brings.

I got something like mid 30's (35.XXX+) on our last road trip to the Houston area in our very right 540i (I have to make 3 rights to make a left). I was seriously leaning toward the M550, but the 540 gives me plenty enough power to get myself in trouble; which I don't need!

I have to tell you that the 540 was a close runner up for me. I test drove one and it moved.

I love my 540 I’m at 21.4 mpg over 43k. I really enjoy it. The 550 was not in the budget.

Yup, my new X5 has the B58 and it moves pretty good. Nothing like the M550, but plenty of effortless pull.

I've had a few 530 B48 loaners (4-Banger) and I can't say the same. Not under powered, but not much fun.

My pre-LCI M550i tells me lies. It says it’s getting 21-22 MPG but when I do the maths I’m actually getting about 19. Luckily, my wife’s X5 45e practically uses no fuel thanks to having a charger at our house and her having a free charger at work. So if I factor her fuel savings in then I’m getting like 38MPG, right? Hurrah

Ha ha ha ha! "when you do the maths" I here's ya! May I suggest installing solar panels on the M550i with an auxiliary battery? While your wife is towing you, you can run cables from your auxiliary battery to your wifes car, sort of like an umbilical cord. I would also advise hoisting a sail to take advantage of wind power. If you play your cards right, I bet this will push you over 40MPG...you can't shake a stick at that!

I thought the M550i crowd didn’t care at all about fuel economy

And I think 50mpg in 20F weather isn’t all that special

I could really care less. I have not bought any one of my last 7 BMW V8's with fuel economy in mind nor was it a budgetary concern. If it's a concern, you should be looking at golf carts, i.e. EV's. I think most of the people here are sharing for trivial knowledge. It is pretty cool that the M550 is capable of hitting 30 mpg if you wanted to dumb it down in ECO Pro to make it perform like 530e.

I wasn’t in ECO Pro. The 530e is surprisingly fuel efficient even in Sport mode.

Budgetary concerns are a matter of taste. I am just having a bit of fun.

Unusual for me. Fun that is.

I was saying you would have to put an M550 in ECO Pro to achieve 30 mpg. Not a 530. The 530e is pretty much made for economy in any mode.

Yes, fun. I'm in it for the fun. I was one never to care about fuel consumption. I'm a car guy.

This place would be a boring place if it was an echo chamber. I don't care what Mandingo says, our views may differ at times, but I do appreciate your input Logical….with respect to our vehicles. That said, you can now break out in a sweat looking at my mileage. You would be proud that I gained a tenth of a MPG since my last report. I must have caught a tail wind.

I’m a data whore, so I like looking at a lot of metrics even if they’re irrelevant to the subject (like MPG in a turbo V8). I track fuel economy even on track days (8 mpg in my previous 1LE, 9 in my Supra, 10 in my e92 M3).

I only “care” about the data that’s related to the purpose of the machine, and like Joe said the rest is just for fun. The metrics that matter are performance metrics in my sports cars, safety and fuel economy in my X5, and in the case of my M550i that is speed without sacrificing comfort. So my lack of concern about fuel economy in my M550i doesn’t mean I disregard it generally speaking.

Just did a round trip between Seattle WA and Vancouver BC yesterday, my 540i averaged 34mpg. It's the most fuel efficient car I've ever owned.

Did a quick 420mile quick getaway for the day and had some nice MPG’s with the V8. Slightly spirited driving sometimes and averaged 26mpg going, 27.5 coming back.

Love the versatility of this machine and eco pro will still give you some power when needed.

My 2019 M550i xdrive I would get 30-32 at 75mph on cruise on 95. But in my town would average 13ish but that was my fault lol.
