Brake Pad Sensor

So I am getting conflicting information! On the G30 can you rest brake pad sensors from the cluster or do I need a scan tool or other electronic device? All I see in the cluster is oil, brake fluid and vehicle check. No brake pad reset.

I haven't wrenched myself, but my understanding is the only way to reset this is to replace the sensor. It comes on when the sensor is tripped and persists until it is replaced.

So what you are saying is that it should not come on or I should not have to reset anything after changing the brake pads. Hopefully that is the case. I'll find out in about 2 weeks. And yes, I will be using BMW brake wear sensors. I've heard about the aftermarket sensors.

I had a bit more time between my tasks at work and newtis does list a reset procedure, but mentions it is only possible after the sensor has been replaced. I'm sure we'll get the full details from those who have replaced them.

It notes you can't reset with a worn sensor (which makes sense).

I have the 2020 model so it doesn’t look like that in the photo. Mine is all digital. All that said, I’m assuming it shows up after the pad sensor has been changed.

Very likely. I have a 2020 as well and that is what newTIS shows even though the cluster is slightly different on our cars.

The brake pad sensor reset only shows up when the actual sensor goes off. If your sensor never wore down to trigger the brake pad replacement light, and you replace your pads, there will be no menu item to reset.
