Hit a huge pothole, torn sidewall be careful out there.
Bay Area highways are a mess with the recent storms, hit a huge pothole (was wide enough that both wheels would have gotten impacted). Avoided one wheel but could not save the driver side. I-880 south entrance on Stevenson (for the CA peeps’ reference and warning)
Was driving at night, accelerating on the on-ramp, multiple potholes right at the merge, got caught bad in one. Going to replace the RFT, managed to nurse the car back to a friends place 3 miles away. Does the wheel look structurally damaged here? Will get it all inspected tomorrow. The deep curb rash explains how terribly deep the pothole was.

What is it with roads these days? It seems the world over that countries are not looking after the roads
Here in the U.K. the amount of potholes are incredible . I had 2 tyres replaced on my previous car due to them Rather than concentrating on driving you end up looking for potholes In dark or wet conditions very to miss |

Sorry to hear, OP. This is one reason I love the roads in the South and even the Southwest (NM, AZ, etc)...butter smooth!
AP the CA situation is due to their inundation in atmospheric river rainfall recently. When I lived in NJ, there were potholes, but resurfacing was done frequently and diligently. So at least in the US, I don't think the states are disregarding road maintenance.

Rim should be repairable, but definitely needs an inspection.
That will be a diamond re cut for the rim though - got the T shirt here as well, and on the same rims. cannot be seen at all once sorted - (they also re laquer and stove if done correctly post diamond cutting) |

Hard to tell from the picture, but are your tires run flats? I had a similar thing happen a while back on my way to dinner at a club. Hit a jagged piece of concrete broken off from a curb. All the dash lights lit up, With my run flats, I drove on to the dinner, then home, then to the dealer the next morning. My tire looked like yours. It was shot, and the wheel was a bit bent. They put a new tire on and were able to balance the wheel despite being bent and I detected no significant vibration afterward. That's is why I love my runflats (I know not everyone agrees). When I eventually had to mount new tires I got a new wheel. You should have your wheel checked for runout and roundness. They can be repaired and refinished, or if you can get a good deal from your dealer it may make sense to replace it. --Bob

Glad the tire held up.
I haven't had that happen on my G30 yet, but had it happen on my go flats on my MB C300 I had before my G30. Hit a sucker of a pothole that took out both wheels on my passenger side. Had to get towed into the dealer. Was a mess. Wheel looks fine from here, but bends can be hard to see. I'd get them to check it and get it fixed if you notice any vibration after balancing. As it looks easily repairable. |

Sorry friend. Had similar happen to me on 880 last week as well :/
I don’t have rft so in my case the tire needed replacement. Dealer said car is safe to drive on with the wheel as-is but is slightly bent. I’m opting to replace it as well. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2002098 A couple of years ago I had even worse on 680. Wheel very badly damaged along with undercarriage damage. Caltrans seems slower to react in the east bay. 101 is bad in the sense that it can get bumpy. 880 feels like driving through a minefield, with many potholes in a 10 mile stretch that look like they could take out most tires.

Ouch that's bad. I don't see that many complaints on the forums with this happening on 19" wheels, so that pothole must have been deep. Hopefully your wheel can be saved and re-finished. I'm really glad I did not option the 20" wheels.

Kind of a yellow flag that they haven’t yet. I haven’t made my claim yet as I’m waiting on wheel replacement. Wonder what the turnaround time is gong to be.

Thankfully mine was just the tire. From what I heard they take forever but normally with government they should at least send a notice if they are or are not going to pay so I should get an answer. While im not expecting it I would hope they do considering its their responsibility to keep roads drivable.

I did something similar to my 19” inch rims. If I did not have a spare I’d would have been stuck. Tire loss all air and tire was structurally crap.

Thank you all for the kind words and sharing your experiences and tips. Much appreciated!
Got it fixed up with a replacement of a tire. Minor bend on the inside of the wheel, the tire shop guy was quite helpful and thoroughly checked, balanced after mounting the tire. Curb rash fixes aside, no repairs, reshaping of the wheel needed thankfully that may impact use of the vehicle. All highways have developed potholes of different size and shapes. Funny enough the next morning I went out in a friend’s car, they had closed a lane and were seemingly repairing the road. That pothole should have been illegal for highway on-ramps, off ramps or any high speed traffic. It was a massive dent as if an asteroid hit from outer space. How do I file a complaint?
