OMG Help. Alarm keeps going off.

Sweet baby Jesus this is going to make me lose my mind. I picked up my 540 yesterday and everything was fine; now as soon as I lock it, the mirrors start to fold in and it goes into panic/break in mode. I opened and closed everything (hood included), slammed it all and closed doors windows, it locked properly. Got home, back to the same thing. Called assist who connected me to a tech, but that didn’t go anywhere.

As a work around I can lock via connected drive, which does not enable the alarm system remotely. Anyone have experience with this or any suggestions? No faults when the car is on; nothing shows as open etc. Lost!

Do you have anything connected to your OBD2 port?

I do actually. I use a per-mile insurance company that reads off ODBII. I .. think I should go disconnect it and test. Odd though since it’s been plugged in the entire time.

Edit: Son of a bitch. Took it out, locked, no alarm.

Yea, BMW secure the OBD2 port since 2015 if I remember correctly.
They did that because you can easily hi-jack the car through it.
You can ask the dealer to turn it off I believe.
Or code it.
I never done mine, but I've saw the coding for it.

Great, thanks so much for the fast reply and info! I’ll contact my ins. Company and see what my options are.

Well I don’t know about other insurance companies, but this one only uses it for mileage tracking. Not driving style analysis... otherwise, it’d be bad

How do you know that mileage is the only thing they track? Are you saying you trust your insurance company? Do they trust you? Obviously not or they would not need to plug something into the OBD port.

Easy to code off in FZD module.

I wouldn't disable something preventing my car to be stolen, in favor of a spyware installed by my insurance..
I will never ever instal that kind of s*** even if I have to pay a little bit more.

Ok, well all of you tin foil hat wearers.. my point is, my insurance has not gone up as a result of my driving. I used to walk to work every day, driving maybe 10-20 miles a WEEK. I was paying $190 a month for insurance on a car I was barely driving. I switched to my current company, where I have a base rate and pay per mile that I drive. On average, my insurance is $60-80 less per month. It's not the stupid progressive thing that you have to upload and they ding you if you brake too rapidly, etc. I've had them for >3 years now and have no complaints. To each their own. And if you're worried about that, get rid of your smart phone and cable boxes and use a flip phone from the 90s and rabbit ears. Big data is literally everywhere and everything, the least of my concern is how I drive.

My insurance proposed my something similar for my current X5, which I drive 10000km per year max (I have another 4 Serie coupé as a daily to go to work), but I prefer to pay more than having a spyware dongle connected to my car. The problem is not about collecting data, this is about having a tool which will give good reason to your insurance to consider you as guilty when an accident occurs because you were 5kmh over the limit, whereas a truck just didnt stop at a red light and smashed your car.
Usually, you don't get any issues with your insurance as soon as you pay and you don't get any accident. This is when an accident occurs that they do everything they can to find a way to avoid paying the damages.

Just to close the loop on this. My ins company sent me the cigarette adapter; it is in fact a cigarette power to OBD2 connector, which means the unit does not need to be plugged into the OBD2 port for it to work.. which means it's not spyware. Yes, it does have GPS, which I have disabled. The nice thing when it was doing OBD2 was it would give you the fuel level and also alert you if any engine codes were read.

tl;dr not spyware k thx.

I am not worried about spyware. But, once again, if you liked alerts and engine codes, then why not continue to use device with OBD alarm disabled.

Convenience really; if I don't need it plugged into the port and the insurance company is fine with sending me the adapter, I don't see a reason to deal with taking it in to have the feature disabled. It was more useful on my 08 335, helped diagnose a misfire which ultimately led to fuel injector replacements. On the G30 I won't be doing any engine work since it's under warranty.

A quark of any vehicle with BDC_Body (I001/I012, F015, G030, etc). But, easily coded off by dealership or independent coder.

Hi all, Almaretto mentioned that this OBD alarm is "easily coded off by dealership or independent coder." Can you give more information where this is in the FZD cpu for the G30 so I can code myself?

I see the "FZD2" module w/ 2 active cafd FDL's that I can edit under it, but I can't find anything related to the OBD-Alarm. Can anyone share the location of this OBD-Alarm data bit?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the info! For some reason Launcher Premium wasn't mapping the old untrimmed data back in so there were no descriptions. I uninstalled version 2.4.3 and installed version 2.7.1 and the descriptions are now listed. I found the OBD alarm and coded it to not active.

Thanks again!

Version 2.6 and beyond have mapping up to PSdZ 3.59.4; your previous launcher was using 3.54.1.
