Hi.
When looking around in this site I found out that there are some that helps out members with navigation maps update. And I was thinking if this is something that is safe to do on my car aswell ? Or can it "brick" the navigation Best regards, BMWnoob520D |

Safe if your getting it from a BMW portal.
You have to pay to access it though via a subscription on BMWs site. It's a simple process you use a loader on your desktop and it's placed on a USB drive, plug in and the car will recognise it and update. It take 20-30 mins approx. |

Yes safe. Been doing it with the download from connected drive for 4 years now
You are updating the data rather than any firmware/software I think you can interrupt the update if your journey is shorter than the 30mins or so it takes but I've never put that to the test. I just simply choose to do it on a journey that is longer. When it finishes, the navigation restarts and whilst that happens , directions briefly stop. As soon as it's back up you get the choice to resume navigation In the U.K. here the download is about 34GB in size so you need a usb stick of at least 74GB in size to hold this. This usb can also contain music files, the download will move those files to another sub directory . You can manually move back once you have updated. Make sure you remove the navigation file as well otherwise you get promoted to update the navigation every time you insert that particular USB key It's all pretty obvious |

Hi CnSky and AP.
Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it. But how much will that subscription on BMWs site cost. I was mainly thinking about dl the file from a site. Moving the file to an USB stick and connecting it to the car. |

Can't remember how much it costs here in the U.K. , but it's around the £100 mark or thereabouts
That will give you 1 year of updates which is every quarter. You may also potentially get OTA updates ( which are small updates as opposed to the full map) on the odd occasion , but in my experience , since 2017 when new I've only ever had 2 of those. Worth doing in my opinion, not just for the roads but it'll contain other info such as speed limits and petrol stations plus other stuff |

Hi guys.
Thanks for all the information. So then there is no other way to update the navigation then to subscribe on BMW package. I know before like on a bmw F11 2012 year model. A guy that I know. Did dl new update from the internet and managed to update his navigation. But that was many years ago. Wish you all the best. /BMWnoob520D |

You used to be able to find a disc copy online, download it and burn, then pay someone on eBay for an FSC code.
That doesn't work anymore as the FSC is embedded in the download. |

I updated my maps a week or so ago. 'Twas quite easy. I had to purchase a lifetime FSC for $80 and the map set was free. My OTA map set was 2018-1 and the new maps are 2022-1.
