I've received an email that my dinan axle back production was pushed again until March and that got me thinking wether I need one or not. I currently have JB4 on map 2 (will try map3 soon) and installing a high flow ER cat. Other than the sound , are there any performance gains for me? Are we talking about 5hp or 20+ considering other mods?

The only exhaust mod that will yield any power is the downpipe and opf/gpf delete (assuming you're in a region that has this)

Mufflers do jack shit for power

You might gain less than 2hp. Exhausts are more for sounds and looks these days, especially an axle back.

I added a Dinan X middle pipe on my M550iX with stage one software and it gained 1hp. lol. (stock downpipes and muffler)

I was thinking since we are freeing up the flow with the DP and there is more boost with a JB4, then there will be some noticeable flow restrictions on a stock muffler. Looks like I am going to cancel my Dinan muffler order. Thanks guys!

I am hoping mine stays on schedule for March as well. The mid X pipe has been received.

The mid X pipe is the only thing that has stated gains of 5hp on the Dinan website. To the best of my knowledge the axle-back does not add any performance gains. Besides the improved sound, admittedly, my main motivation is double round tips on each side.

They claim 5hp for B58s, and even though the tips are larger than stock, I am not a big fan of the looks tbh

I get it, it's all very subjective. I am not a fan of the smaller crooked trapezoid tips on the stock 540, nor the Dinan trapezoid on their axle-back, TBH. I love the double round M5 look.

My competently scientific butt-Dino felt like the car performed better once I put on an axle back and mid pipe. My draggy would back it up, but weather also changed and I added an xHP tune around the same time.

The noise is definitely worth the $$. And the new tips.

Sorry, I have a 550. Current best is 3.32.

BM3 stage 1, xHP stage 2, and Meisterschaft mid-pipe and axle back.

I guess I will wait until Saturday when I'll be installing my ER high flow DP and see if I need more sound. I don't want the car to be too loud.

Sorry, I have a 550. Current best is 3.32.

BM3 stage 1, xHP stage 2, and Meisterschaft mid-pipe and axle back.
So far my only run with my current set up was 3.96 last night. JB4 map2 and K&N drop in filter on Costco 93 gas. I'm actually very impressed so far! Thinking to shave 0.2-0.3 seconds off with the DP and a couple of gallons of e85.

There something about a sweet exhaust note that adds horsepower to the mind! I hope you are right though, but I would think Dinan would be touting it if there were noticeable gains.

I also noticed that my stock exhaust flap stays open after switching it once in JB4, which is great

I doubt you’ll gain anything from the axle back. You need a down pipe or mid pipe to free anything up.
