Just ordered 2023 M550i

Hey guys!. Newish member and I'm just about to order a 2023 M550i X-drive that I'm super excited about! Deposit is set and now just to wait the 4-6 months before it arrives. Never owned a BMW (dad has) and never bought a new car like this (splurging a bit on myself).

I went with the following options:
  • Exterior color Skyscrapper Grey metallic (POC4W)
  • M Shadowline Package (SOZHO) -for $500 bucks this added a lot of cool factor IMO and seems worth the monty
  • 19in M-Y Jet Black wheels run performance flats (S01UY) - wouldn't mind doing 20in here but they don't have an all black 20in wheel option . Also read the 19in rides better.
  • Cognac Leather (FLCRO) - wish they had a lighter color nappa option but reading about Dakota leather apparently it's changed recently and more durable
  • Fineline Cove Matte Finish Wood (S04LH) - love this look
  • Driving Assistance Professional Package (S0ZDY)
  • Dynamic Handling Package (S0ZPX)
  • Executive Package (S0ZPX)
  • Packing Assistance Package (S0ZPK)
  • Front and Read Heated Seats (S04HA)
  • Leather Dashboard (S04M5)

I would post a rendering of what it's suppose to look like but BMW's site seems to be having some issues at the moment.

After reading some other ordering threads, curious so I double check with my dealership that they have an allocation for my order? He hasn't been very specific with any details other than he said build what I want on the website, send him the "build code" (which annoying changes anytime I view or edit my build) and then it will be 4-6 months till it's here. Any advice from anyone who has gone through the process?

I should also note they had me put down a $1500 deposit which was an email invoice from that specific dealership (not from BMW corporate).

i would ask for a production #. this would prove they actually have an allocation and you can track the status of your vehicle all the way till the day you pick it up at the dealership.

Good luck. My dealership can never get me an allocation, so I'm buying a car much like yours (sadly missing the leather dash) that was already ordered for stock.

I ordered my 2023 M550i in mid June, and expect to pick it up from the dealer tomorrow. Didn't take 4 months, but I'd confirm that they have an allocation, otherwise it could take a while.

They get to keep 1500 while it takes 8-12 months to get your five?

I'm hoping it doesn't take 8-12 months. It sounds like the deposit might be a dealership by dealership deal.

I have a message in with my sales rep to ask about a production number and asked specifically that they have an allocation to order this car.

I should also note, I live about equa-distance from 3 BMW dealerships. Is it fair to say that if one doesn't have an allocation one of the other two might?

If they don't have an allocation for you now, I suggest you ask where you are at in their list to receive an allocation (it should just be in chronological order from when people placed and order and deposit). That can help give you a idea of timeframe whether you are next up, or x number of people are ahead of you.

I placed an order along with a $2500 deposit for a 540 in April. Dealer received an allocation for my build in July, car landed in Baltimore on Aug 5 and is still there. The process definitely tests your patience, but I try to keep in mind I am getting the exact build I want with no compromises.

Good luck!

I was told this morning they have allocations for this car and they are just waiting for a production number to be assigned.

Nice! You should be in good shape then. I used the build tracker on bmwusa website which is helpful to see where your car is in the process. You can also call BMW genius (search the forum for info if you are not familiar). I was surprised how quickly the car was built (no more than a week or so). The majority of the time has been spent waiting at the port in Germany and now here.

Insane time we live in. Our 2019 540 took 1 month back in the day from Germany. Talk about night and day.

The x5 we have took 2 weeks! From order to delivery.

These days it's 2-3 months for a SC build. The new normal.

There's a number you can call where you provide them with your production number and they let you know where your car is in the build process. Simple and quick way to get a status update. In my experience they can't give much more detail as to the "why" if things are delayed but at least you can get basic info.

here's a thread with a lot of detail:
https://www.******.com/threads/bimme...ealership.683/

I am sure there are many others.

Care to share the price you paid around MSRP?

Everyone speaks about the pricing on the forum, and lease or buyout?

If you are looking at 12 months, the design change with 2024 is round the corner, something to consider

Hi guys I'm in the same boat. Placed my order on the 30th of August. Asked for 1500 deposit. Got an update from the salesperson this week that my order is in the order bank. I asked him when I will get a production number he told me in about a week. Hopefully that holds true so I can start tracking my car.

Is there much info on the 2024? Isn't it rumored 2024 will be a hybrid?

As per price I haven't actually paid for it but I was told it will be MSRP and that they have no reason to do lower than that given they can sell it quickly and easily if I don't want it.

Unsure whether M550i would be eliminated or replaced with something similar (ICE) with the lineup reworked to focus on the electric vehicles and hybrids. This could quite possibly be the last chance to order an M550i.

Yeah dealers certainly have an upper hand now with pricing, the whole supply chain is gradually stabilizing but the fear mongering continues. It will for a while.
