Just for reference, the 5 series brochure in my area just states that the car has operating system 7 (iDrive 7). I don’t think an average buyer will be able to know that the vehicle that they bought has a lacklustre version iDrive 7, nor was the buyers even informed beforehand.

P.S. Based on this brochure, they even misinformed me that the control display is 12.3 inches when it is only 10.25 inches.

In the US, and likely most other markets (but I hesitate to say all as I don't know all market configurations), BMW doesn't sell the 5-Series with Live Cockpit Plus. It only sells with Live Cockpit Professional (6U3). Both iDrive 7 and 6U3 are listed on my window sticker as well.

It is also important to remember. BMW heavily marketed the car as including iDrive 7 and made zero mention of its limitations compared to the X5 which already had iDrive 7. ALL BMW marketing materials then, and now, still made reference to iDrive 7 features by saying all you need is "Operating System 7" and "Live Cockpit Professional" which we learned isn't true.

Even more galling... The Connected Drive Supported Feature Matrix that was available at the time in 2020 also said all you need is 6U3 and iDrive 7. I have attached that document to this post. Oh... And my printed and digital manual BOTH say RSU is supported!!

Have any of the MY20 5 series owners expressed their displeasure around this issue to BMW Corporate? What has their response been?

We don’t need to look at it another way - My Nov 19 car has Live Cockpit Professional 6U3 not SA6U2 Plus. The July 2019 UK brochure (and price list) confirms this and also confirms ID7 will be fitted Name: 09C98341-93B7-4E54-AA4B-FFD09DA0DCD5.jpeg

I too am of the opinion that a class action should be taken. At least it would be advisable to contact a lawyer who is particularly practical in these cases to understand the final result obtainable and then decide whether or not it is convenient to do it. In my opinion it is a won cause regardless.

There was a member who was also an attorney on Bimmerfest who was looking into possible legal actions several months ago. I will post the link if I can find it.

I have read, but if Richpat69 still doesn't answer, maybe he doesn't because he got something from bmw?? But it would not be nice towards all the interested parties of the forum and not: he could at least say if he has obtained a positive result, without going into details.

HI everyone. Quick update from my end. I am based in Toronto and the dealer i got my MY20 540 XI updated the software to 20-11-557. Android Auto seems to work and i noticed the Apple Maps now showing up on HUD.

They did not charge me for this. Small victory of some sorts.

2020 M550i  [0.00]
today i started the remote update process in our G20 M340i. everything works fine, the car has now 11/2020.50. Now i can ask the car "hey BMW, how sounds the M8" and i get the example sound of the M8. But i dont find the new Laptimer App under Apps.

After that, i start "Apps und Dienste aktualisieren" in our M550i. The car had received the november Update last year at service. Today i found the Laptimer App under Apps and i can also ask the car for the M8 sound.
So we also get with the ID7 lite updates. There is perhaps still hope for caring car and the vitalize programs...;-)
