I had the same problem yesterday. Cluster went blank idrive show error of pedestrian and collision. I turned off the engine, close the car but it didn't help, so i drove it few kilometers and switched it of again and then it woke up and everything was fine again.
What I notice there is also a problem with reseting odometer. The button just not reacting but not all the time, sometimes it does. Was just by the bmw specialist he run diagnostic program (lot of fout codes witch came the same time when cluster went blank) and he told me that the cluster is dying, need to be replaced, not the first time they have to do it.

Hi there
this may be a strange one but could be a common issue you may know about, so particularly in the warmer months my cluster dials go blank once the outside temperature reaches circa +18 degrees occasionally they do disappear when cooler
I get the following message on the center screen and I have photos
Driver assistance restricted affected systems
Pedestrian alert
Front end collision warning
As above this mainly happens in warm weather, it is always fine in the morning and if I have the cold aircon on drive from work (approx. 1 hour) switch off engine and wait 10 minutes it is fine
