Maybe a corny thread...but does anyone have nicknames for their cars? We do for all of our cars.

2017 Jaguar F pace - Dark and stormy (color is Storm Grey)
2015 Viper - Plissken (Escape from NY reference...snake plissken)
2020 Lexus RX350 - Alien (I just cant get into the lines on that car)
2022 M550i (Bernina Grey) - The wife calls it tinfoil. She says it looks like the back side of tinfoil. I call her high-priced whore (the car not the wife).

Negative and never would, it's corny to me. I also find it annoying when someone calls their car "She". Always struck me as weird, even when my Father did it.

Guilty as charged. My car is a she is all that jazz.

I think it is borne out of that natural human desire to personify things and things have have been personified are more natural for us to attach human characteristics and emotions toward. We can love our car because we've given it a name and a personality of some kind.

Not too much unlike our doing the same for non-human living things. We haven't given a name or personality to the chicken at the store so we don't feel negative emotions for consuming it, but the same for our pets would invoke a deep and painful emotional response akin to the loss of a human loved one.

Not needed for all of us, of course, but needed for some of us. Me included. Ironically, since I'm usually not one for emotions.

It's all good, I realize it's not uncommon to call a car "She", I hear it all the time and it does make me cringe, but that's because I am just a miserable SOB, lol!

But a Pet does have a gender, a car does not. Why isn't a car a "he". Does a female car owner call a car "He"? Is it a male thing to think about a car as feminine?

Hmmmm...deep thoughts.....in this cancel culture era, should we call our cars "They" or "Them"?? Does my M550 really want to be a boy?

No nicknames here. We just refer to the blue car (G30) and black car (G01). My wife doesn't pay any attention to model #'s etc. so it's easier this way.

Absolutely. You refer to your car as She, I kill you. And with respect to car names, I never named one car until my wife started it. So I blame her.

By the time I start calling my cars by name, the names I use cannot be printed.

The airplane is an exception; everyone refers to it as either "Woodstock" or "Screamin' Canary".

Edit: I just remembered... the BMW's predecessor, an '07 S600, was another exception. While we didn't give it a name per se,I did refer to it as "the rocket sled".

Suffering from a severely impaired creativity I have generally failed to come up with any names, starting with my first car: a red 1959 MGA 1500 I cleverly referred to as "the MG".

During the period I owned both a '74 Jaguar Series 3 OTS and an '88 Jaguar XJ-S Hess & Eisenhardt convertible I did at least differentiate between them: "the blue Jag" and "the red Jag".

The closest have been the Suburban 1500s we've owned. Both dark gray, they have sometimes been called "the great gray whale", or simply "the whale". but mostly we fall back to lamely calling it "the Suburban".

Sad, I know.

I have never named cars per se but I long have enjoyed various personalized plates. Here is a picture of a few I have hanging on my garage wall annotated to described each car represented. Pantera means panther in italian and 1990-1995 Corvette ZR-1s were initially labeled "King of the Hill" Corvettes by the press, hence Hil King. Currently wearing "POPS Z" on the 2016 Corvette Z06, as my grandkids call me Pop, but alas no vanity plates on the BMWs. --Bob
