When are VINs for ordered cars available?

Hi,

I'm new here and I've just joined E90Post since I'll be joining the club here as a 335i Coupe driver, as soon as the car finally comes. The car has been ordered at the dealership on the 10th, along with a 535xi touring, and I've been checking back at BMW Owner's Circle and it's been "On Order" status since. I have production numbers for both of the cars but no VINs. I need those for two reasons. I want to reserve license plates for the cars in advance, for which the DMV wants the VINs, and since I'm originally from Germany and planning to go back next year, I'm currently looking into taking the cars back over. I've already talked to BMW Germany for a list of parts that would need to be changed in order to meet the TUV standards in Germany. They will send me a complete list, as soon as I can send them the VINs, for them to make sure that they're sending me a complete and correct list. If there's any interest, I'll post the complete list here, in case anyone might come into the same situation, as soon as I receive them. So from what stage in production will I be able to see the VINs for the cars on BMW Owner Circle? Is it worth the effort calling my CA, or will he not be of any additional help in this?

I believe BMW will assign VINs to cars once the production starts. Order numbers are just that, your order is still in the queue but the actual production hasn't started yet.

Yes, all VINs are assigned once the car goes into production. The VIN is stamped into the sheet metal in the very first stage of production.

Once you know the production week for you vehicle,figure about 10 days before and you should have vin !
