So if the car was leaps and bounds above the competition I wouldn't mind. But there are too many good options these days I'm beginning to wonder why I should stay with BMW. Some parts of the car aren't even as good as the competition.

Steering engineers, I'm looking at you.

Why? It's annoying have all these cost-cutting measures, especially when the competition is catching up and in some ways surpassed BMW.

BMW will lose with this nickel and dime strategy they are currently employing. The things they have been cutting out the last year or 2 (ED discount, MSDs, Maintenance) are what distinguished them from the competition. It hasn't been their driving dynamics that's for sure

Maybe it's time for American muscle. BMW is going lame zero soul electric cars anyway. The ultimate driving machine days are gone.

If you drive 50k+ miles a year, how long does a car last for you?

Mind sharing alternatives -- examples? Do they have the same engine performance as BMW M's?

My assumption behind this reasoning is that the used car market is set to be inundated with supply in the coming years because of lease returns and BMW will be competing with itself when it comes to used cars vs. new car sales. They have to make used cars less compelling so they can sell the new ones. And in instances when they have used sales, the warranty period is reduced, and the free maintenance is non-transferable -- both factors saving them money. Stupid call on BMW's part because this reduces their resale value by a lot, and it makes people reconsider buying a BMW at all.

Really weak move by BMW USA. With all of these changes they're making, and price increases, I guess they don't want to sell new or used cars anymore.

Hate to say this because I really love my local dealer, but once my M3 and X5 need to be replaced, I'll probably be moving on to Audi or Mercedes...

AMG makes excellent cars that can outperform M cars more often than not (engine power and acceleration wise), sounds better too. AMG also has a perception of being a higher end product than BMW M.

There is also the Audi RS line which has potent engines that sound great.

I'm starting to realize that this post has nothing to do with CPO warranty...

yes! but their leases are expensive. I was quoted $ 772 a month for 2018 S4
MSRP $60,500.

This moves allows dealerships to have much more affordable CPO vehicles as dealers must add thousands of warranty cost to their cost. While the 2/50K warranty is backed by BMW it does not mean that it is "free" to the dealer. A 2 year / unlimited mileage warranty is available for additional cost. But overall you will see less expressive CPO BMWs going forward. I see it as a win win

I don't post often but, I have owned several BMWs over the years. My current one is an F80 M3. The loss of the great steering feel was a big hit when BMW moved to electric steering but I stayed with the brand. However, this nickel and dimeing is reaching a tipping point for me.Unfortunately, none of our opinions will cause a change in their corporate strategy though, if BMWs sales keep going up, up, up. Seems like the buying public will suffer any cost cutting measure or, dilution of sporting purpose to have a blue and white propeller in their garage.

Agreed, but what is the point of white and blue propeller if there is nothing behind it to back it up?

When people tell me that you pay for the badge when you buy a BMW car, my argument is always what the badge stands for. It is becoming more and more difficult to justify paying for the BMW badge these days when Merc and Audi give you more (it seems) for the same price.

Ridiculous. My wife's 340 which competes with the S4 is low $500s. It's no stripper. xdrive, M Sport, Executive.

Audi thinks they are an exclusive brand. Haha.

Seems like the only way to go is to buy private party cars (cut out the dealerships) and just roll your own warranty via places like Route66 which will give you 5 years to a total of 100k miles from the date of purchase. Once the population is educated... its hard to put the genie back into the lamp
