I'm looking at a 2018 5 series and it has chrome accents on the door handles. Is that something offered through the factory?

Yea its factory. Mine came with it and I had it gloss black wrapped.

I believe they stopped including the door handle chrome inserts for the 2019 model.

I have a 2018 and didn't notice them at first. Then I noticed and it bugged me. I left it alone and now, after a few months, I'm basically neutral on it. If my car was black or white, I would've thought about wrapping them. But it's dark graphite and it's a Luxury Line with other chrome accents that I wouldn't want to wrap.

2018 models have chrome inserts. I have a 2018 M550 with all the cerium accents… all the other trim around the windows is black. the chrome doesn't match anything - so I looked into either painting my door handles or having them wrapped.

Getting them wrapped as much faster and far cheaper and still looks great. Depending on what color your car is trying to wrap your doorhandles to match your paint might be difficult. If you have a black car or a white car it would be easy on my Mediterranean blue metallic the wrap shop said they didn't have anything in stock that would actually match correctly anything I used would look mismatched.

I debated between wrapping it black or graphite to match the cerium of my cars trim. The wrap shop I went to had quite a few metallic silver wraps and I found a color that was almost an exact match for cerium I think it turned out great.

The first photo is how it looks now - after I wrapped it. Third photo is of the original chrome insert. The wrap matches the cerium trim / my wheels - I like it.

I don't have an M Sport so it matches as is. But I've always thought it was a significant oversight for BMW to put that cerium gray trim all over the 550 but the 18's have those chrome door handle inserts. And also I think it's bogus that the standard rims on a 550 are silver while the trim is all cerium. Makes you either have to go black wheels, pay up for cerium wheels, or get the shadow line package on the grill and trim.

Even if they did that to force an option upgrade, it's dumb. It's at least an $80k car, and can be closer to $100k. No need to force an upgrade on wheels. Just make wheels that match the standard and up the base price by a few hundred.

Nice job!. You know, out of all my idiosyncrasies and OCD, the handles never bothered me, but thanks for bringing it to my attention!!
