Everything is provided for you? I'd dump the 335i and lease a Gallardo.

OP,

I am just like you, mid 20s (low end of it).. Always loved cars..
My last car was a Mazda, when i got promoted, i got a Z4 but a 2003.

Cheap and fun....

Is not until now, i realize cars are only as fun as you can afford it.. I can go buy a 335i tomorrow, but no way in hell i am giving up disposable cash that i can spend on vacations, photography, starting a small business.. and much more..

There is simply a lot more in life than the 4 wheels...

If you have to work your ass off to pay for a car while at school, you're life isn't very fun. Go out and get laid.

I can't believe that kids get cars so above their means. Not brillant, *far from it*.

I suggest that you find a 8K$ E46 325/330 and a trusty mechanic. The M3 is out of question.

IMO you need to get rid of the 335i...focus on school/graduate program or whatever you need to do, then when you settle down...get the car you want.

Why did you pay for the car?

You should have had your parents do it instead of borrowing for a car. Bet the loan has crap terms.

But since you already have the car, getting rid of it now will only put you underwater with no transportation. Plus, a 335i is worth about the same as used underwear due to all the leases being flogged off. End result, you really wont save anything. Whats done is done, you learned your lesson and will put in to good use in coming years.

That's what I was thinking too. If he was to sell the 335i or whatever, he wouldn't save that much in monthly payments. If anything the interest on a used car would be higher than a new car thus making it a moot point. Like I said, if you're not struggling to make payments then you're not in a "situation". It's true that you only make about $24k a year but with no rent/mortgage to pay it's the same as someone making $50k+ a year.

BTW, the thing about not tolerating a Civic: You should try it first.

My sister was going to be given an SLK or similar last year but that changed when she ran my mothers car into a house. End result, more training and a 2009 Civic coupé and it is quite nice.

Someone who makes $50,000 a year shouldn't be buying a 335i.

Why not depends on a lot of factors...house paid, spouse working etc etc

I was gonna say that it depends too. I don't know where the idea that if you make so and so you shouldn't buy this and that came from. It's like people that shop at Costco. You would think that people that shop there don't make much money (due to the cheaper prices) yet the majority of them are middle-class citizens. It's all relative.

He should ask for a JB+ or whatever instead; like many people on here it makes their car faster than anything else

You live in NY and are going to go to SUNY

You need something that can handle snow

You don't want to step back into Japanese brands

What about a nice, used, low mile R32 like this one?
