Hey guys I'm hoping to go into Investment Banking and I'm searching for some insight into the industry. I was wondering if there were any investment bankers here who could lend a helping hand. Thanks in advance.

I am a Finance and Economics double major with previous internship experience in commercial and consumer banking.

Why do you want to go into Investment Banking? aside from the $$$ if you actually make it through giving up your twenties and early thirties in hopes that you make it?

Perhaps try Wall Street Oasis. Douche heaven, but that's kind of what you're looking for, haha.

I wanted to do IB back in the day and got some good info there.

You might actually be better served at a buy-side shop.

I have heard it's difficult to break into a buy-side shop straight out of undergrad. Definitely also an interest of mine though.

I would say it's far easier than going into IB. That's a very small universe compared to that of institutional money managers. I've been at one since graduating in 2003 and we get fresh college grads pretty regularly.

I know a few people who work in IB, it's fucking brutal man.

I don't know of any internship hook ups though, but if you can grind like hell then more power to you.

As others have mentioned - IB is a SMALL universe and will chew on you mercilessly....The dues must be paid as you try to climb this ladder...and they are expensive.

You seem young and full of hope (kidding with a side of sarcasm) - I would think you might could find other ways to satisfy that entrepreneurial spirit...

If you do go into the industry, remember money is what defines the industry, not you.

As a person who works at bank, its never really about the money, its what the money can do.

That's true, but let's look at outsourcing first.

I do. When you say IB, what do you mean specifically? M&A, Capital Markets, Lev Fin, Coverage, S&T?

I am interested in them all at this point. I haven't been exposed to any of the specific divisions long enough to develop a preference or even be able fully differentiate one from another.
