New tire recommendations 20" M668 wheels

Hi all,

My 2020 M550 needs new tires. I hit a BIG friggin' pothole that put a giant bubble on my front right tire. Had wheel checked, its good, but I get vibrations at 60mph and up.

The tires on now are Eagle 1 runflats and I dont like them.
Front tire size is 245/35/20, rear tire size is 275/30/20

I would like to go a bit wider and maybe one size taller if possible.
Heard great things about the Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Can I go 255/40/20 and 285/35/20 without any issues ?

Thanks, Mark

Thats a valid point, however, i do remember reading you can change the wheel and tire size in I Drive to change that. Having said that, I'm considering just putting stock 245/35/20 Michelin Pilot Sports on the front and living with it. The rear Goodyear F1 runflats have TONS of tread left on them. My car has less than 11k miles.

I have a whole set of Winter 636 GY wheels and tires that need to go on soon.
Maybe over the winter I will buy a new set of wheels and put some wide bodies on for next summer.

I went with non run flat Continental DWS 06 Plus all seasons. 245/40/20 and 275/35/20 on my 668m rims. I was concerned 285 and 255 width would be too tight so I stuck with stock width tires with the larger sidewall for comfort and pothole protection. Love the setup. I do like them better than Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 that I had on my Audi s6. But the new A/S 4 are getting good reviews. My setup also creates no issues with speedometer.

No surprise the Goodyear F1 Assymetrics failed. That's what they do best. Get a set of Michelin PS3 ZP and I bet you'll wonder why BMW ships these cars with anything other than this tire.

I've had non RF Continental DWS 06 AS's on last two cars (with the 'Plus' version on current car), and have had Michelin non RF Pilot Sport AS' previously also. IMO, the Continental's have a little better ride than Michelin, but the Michelin's handling is a little sharper if you're pushing perhaps 80%+. Continental's are quieter also.

I had these on my SQ5 and have been contemplating putting them on my M550. Good to see this feedback!

I'm not a fan at all of the Pirellis I have on there now.

+1000, look no further than dealer installed star marked Michelin Super Sports. Ditch the run flats.

Still happy with the decision? The stock sized tires just look so small. I'd love to put some "plus 0" sized tires on when the stock ones finally die...

Just my 2 pence worth. Looked at up sizing the tyres also last year. BMW have already maxed out the rims with 245 on 8" fronts and 275 on the 9" rears. Adding +5 to the side wall would need a drop down to 19s to keep everything to spec ideally. So I bit the bullet for new wider rims that would take 255/35/20 and 285/30/20 UHP summer tyres.

Why no PS4S. I had a bubble in my front left after 1000miles. And the only logical choice was the best tyre you can buy.

I took my Goodyear RFTs (Asymmetric 5s — strangely everyone else seems to have Asymmetric 3s) after like 50 miles and put on Continental DWS06 tires. They are way quieter. I honestly can't compare the handling since car was brand new and I had the tires on for just 50 miles but I would but these tires again. They ride great and no complaints.

I took a risk on a brand new model tyre: continental sportcontact7. Out of interest has anyone weighed the Goodyear eagle F1 runflats? They come up as 30lbs for the 275's on tireracks website. When I weighed the 285 continentals they are just over 20! Can runflats be that heavy??

Maybe the sidewall reinforcement adds a lot of weight?

Another vote here for the Michelin PS3ZP. Love them. Will replace them with another set when needed.....if they ever wear out!

The sportcontact6 was my fav summer street tire, much better road feel than Michelin ps4s IMO. I may try the sportcontact7 when it's time to replace if it is as good as the 6!
