Anyone done this?
Used Vinyl? Plastidip? Really want to black them out, so looking for suggestions or guidance. Thank you |

I did it on my g30 540 ix. Used 3m tape on the bottom trim but it wasn't as easy as some of the youtube videos lead me to believe. i used Hyperdip on the curved top trims (did 6 coats) but didn't turn out great. From a distance it looks good. i suggest you use paint (glossy). There is a product i came across on youtube that looked promising.

Thanks for the feedback.
One thing I came across on Hyperdip, you had to do 10-12 coats (vs 6 for plastidip). I am planning on doing the emblems, the rims and the window trim in the new Hyperdip Black Emerald. Will post pics when done (Hyperdip is OOS currently) Quote:

I did hyperdip on the 530e rear emblem and fender vents. The 530e came out ok. The fender vents didn't look good. I removed it. If the fender vents came out good, I would've sprayed my window trim too but I might try to vinyl wrap it now.
IMO, hyperdip is only slightly better than plastidip. |

Cool.
I got black stick on type fender vents from Amazon, and a black kidney grill (going to clean them with alcohol and Ceramic Spray them before install). I will definately do the emblems with hyperdip and do want to see what 10-12 coats will do for the trim... Will keep this thread active as I do the changes... Quote:

From my experience vinyl would be the most reliable choice in terms of quality and durability. If you choose a quality vinyl and the surface is prepared and installed correctly it should last for years.

I agree, but on the G30 530e, there is a lot of rubber trim after the chrome piece, and cutting/folding/edging it scares me..
any self help vids or pics would be welcome from all |

There are video tutorials on youtube but one thing is to watch and understand but doing it yourself well, that's a completely different story. |

I did vinyl wrap. Not the cheapest but looks blacked out.

It looked too tough to cut vinyl wrap around the window trim and weather stripping. I was scared I was going to cut it with the exacto knife as it's a very tight space. I instead got a vinyl wrapping shop to do it for around 300-500$ (maybe cheaper in your area). Find a shop with good reviews and picture of other jobs they did. My place did a perfect job. In short I left it to the experts to do. I like the car way better blacked out! Note: the older G30s have an annoying chrome piece in the door handle and the shop did it for me as well. Also: I paid for the black grill and purchased the gloss black side vents from BMW and installed myself. Upcoming is gloss black rims.
