What you have is called bore scoring.
1. Localized thermal hot spots causing the oil film to break down between the piston and cylinder bore. 2. The engine running dangerously close to its' safe design limits. 3. Not changing the oil often enough, as unburned fuel mixes with the oil and reduces viscosity. 4. Leaking fuel injectors allowing fuel to intermix with oil. |

Following. Dinan stage 1 tune as well. This tune has to be the mildest of any of the tunes - BM3, Carbahn, JB4 and customs. I am inclined to think that the Dinan tune is not the cause. Dinan full exhaust certainly has nothing to do with this.
The Dinan warranty is only in effect while the factory warranty is in effect. CPO doesn't count. OP, Definitely strip it down to stock and bring it in. Hopefully BMW steps in with some goodwill. I'm certainly going to pop my hood and listen closely. Isn't a certain amount of "tick" normal? I'll post a video for reference.

I think all of us are probably a little paranoid given the two recent posts like this. OP - truly wishing you the best of luck. I can imagine this is pretty frustrating. |

I was just thinking of ceramic coating (I know not the same) lasts a few years, maybe just long enough to get past the warranty? |

Yeah, I am not convinced BMW introduced these two enhancements on the TU3 as a direct relation to what's going on here. The TU2 has been installed in the 7-Series since mid 2015 for the 2016-19 MY's and in the G30 M550 from 2017-2019. Scorching of the cylinder walls has not been anywhere near a common theme or common complaint or we would see a lot of these 7 year old 7-series breaking down. Although, these seem like nice enhancements and worthy coatings.

I do a flush every other and a Liqui Moly CeraTec (Ceramic) treatment with every oil change. At the end of the day, the same principles in place for 100 years - quality and frequent oil changes help to minimize engine failure and promote longevity. Not saying the issues in this thread are due to lack of quality and frequent oil changes, but some things never change with regard to oil.

Don't get freaked out Mark. Issues with BMW V8's come with the territory. Some severe, some easier on the wallet. I've owned many BMW V8's. From the Nakasil issue on the E32 to the timing chain guide issue on the E39 540. The worst has been the TU only and I skipped that on my F10 and went with the I6. The TU2/3 has been relatively problem free, relatively speaking. Don't beat the shit out of it and change the oil.
