So I guess this effectively makes the adaptive icon headlights obsolete? Laser headlights > Adaptive icon headlights > base G20/G30 led headlights.

I wonder if the M550i will receive mesh grills like the Z4 and M340i?

BMW doesn't "Think" anything, buyers think bigger is better, so every single manufacturer including BMW makes their cars slightly bigger in each iteration.

Came out as a 2017 model, so it's been out three model years already.

Also apparently people want their BMWs look like a Lexus. I saw a new 330 today and it wasn't until I actually saw the BMW roundel that saw it wasn't a new Lexus from the back. So I guess you are right. BMW doesn't "think" anymore. It just follows.

It responds to what the market wants not to what Bimmerpost members demand.

We don’t like to mention California. They’re their own place. Where I come from, most people own black MB E and S class cars or BMW 5 and 7 series cars instead of Lamborghini and Ferrari models. DC has wealth, but it’s mostly understated. My parents drove BMW 5 series and MB E class cars because they’re not as overstated as their Italian and Japanese counterparts. I may be outspoken here since I’m “too young to have an opinion,” but I’m not a fan of where BMW is going with the new flamboyant styling. I know that most kids my age would die for a neon orange bmw M4 with a loud exhaust and a massive wing, and I honestly find that to be a little bit sad. The point of any German car is that they’re understated. It’s what’s under the hood that matters. Not outside of it.

Why don't you buy a 911 or Ferrari dad?

I don't want people to notice it.

Could have gotten one no issue.

When does the merc e class get its facelift / LCI? Didn't the current e class come out earlier than the 5 series?

Current MB E-class came out for 2017 model year - same as current BMW 5-Series (G30). First model year for the current M5 (F90) was 2018.

This LCI will come out for 2021 model year.

Pre-LCI G30 will have 4 model years (2017-2020)
Pre-LCI F90 will have 3 model years (2018-2020)

Expect the 5-Series LCIs to last through 2023 (three model years) followed by an all-new 5-Series for 2024.

Time heals all wounds and although I definitely think these new larger kidney's are a bit comical as long as they keep selling it will keep down sliding to the G30 and G20. I mean look at Lexus' predator grille. That was probably one of the most laughable things to come out of a car grille in the last 20 years but it now literally sells on every single model. Eventually it will grow on you even if it is ugly.

That's fair if Pops thought of his vehicles as tools to get from point A to point B, but clearly he wasn't a discerning sports car enthusiast or driving enthusiast. The latter doesn't give a F what people think and will drive whatever he/she pleases for no other reason than it makes them happy to drive and own. But yeah, if you don't care about cars and have money, driving a black Benz is going to fly under the radar and draw less unwanted attention than say a yellow Ferrari would.

Also, I think the LCI is going to look awesome. From what I can tell, it looks like the grilles will be of similar shape and proportion to those found on the G20 3-series and not the 7er LCI.

My mother was into cars, as she grew up with a Datsun 240z and a 5er. She loved the 5 series since it’s powerful, and the average person wouldn’t notice. The 5 series is also practical, which is a plus. Personally, I’m planning on buying an 8 series Gran Coupe for the perfect balance of power and practicality, but for now, I’m using the good old ‘12 Volkswagen GLI.

I do hope that the LCI 5er’s grilles are similar to the G20 3er’s, as that would keep the car modest. I’m also really hoping that the 5er receives the new X5’s Laser Headlights because that would be pretty slick.

What about the interior?

The current 5 series interior is dated.

What do mean by dated?

Styling is obviously subjective but in terms of technology it's up there
I don't think having a map in the instrument cluster is the best place (like Audi) from an wrgernomic point of view.
It might have the wow factor but where are your eyes on the road when you are looking detailed info in the cluster?
HUD is the place for any info like that.
I think the 5 is pretty much gimmick free ( bar gesture control) and I think it's arguably conservative look will age less than others potentially.

Anything that is fashionably now is bound to date it.

Can't wait to get my 540xi on Friday and out of my Q50 RS. Talk about a dated interior and tech. 👎🏻
