i don't trash it, i just drive it good.
i'm in a different continent mate.
it's depreciated 20% from when i bought it (i bought it at 30% off list) but nobody here buys near new used BMWs other than from dealers, only very used BMWs from private sellers, so i'm going to very use it very well.

Speaking of beautiful cars with three pedals that handle incredibile (this interior is #1 on my list if I end up ordering one or am lucky enough to find it used):

This one is outside my budget, I would have to settle for the lowly Turbo LOL.

It won’t matter. I won’t trade this car anytime soon and when I do, it will put me on a mission to find its perfect 2023 sequel. Probably in Alvite (same color) if I can find it. If the M550 wasn’t so damn hard to beat, I’d be scheming harder on the M340. But the M550 is just too perfect for me. Really. I love the M850 GC idea, as I’ve said countless times. But even that probably wouldn’t keep from regretting a trade. I think the only thing I could trade for and not regret it is a M5 or another M550. And mine has Bowers and DHP. I love and would miss both features. For someone that loves shopping cars, I’ve really put myself in a corner. I’ve got the best car (for me) that I can afford, with almost every option I’d order myself and a great color that seems somewhat rare on the M550. The only options I’d like that I don’t have are aesthetic - leather dash, alcantara headliner, and 668M wheels. I’ve even gotten to appreciate the black leather, which was originally seen as a compromise for me. I love driving different cars and seeing what’s cool about them. But since I got the M550, every time I drive something else and then get back in mine, it just drives home that I have the perfect car for me.
I'd look for an older M240i with low mileage. I like the front of the current 2, but can't stand that butt.

I think you've got one of the best cars in the market today period 🙂 the wheels can be easily replaced. .

Also a good thought. And I don’t like the front or the rear very much.

I think you’re right about the M550 (you and I being partial to the 2020 specifically) and if I can make myself sit still and keep it then I’ll eventually get some 668’s. For that matter, you can buy a leather dash and an alcantara headliner replacement for probably what the 668’s cost. I’ve got all the options you can’t swap out post production (or would never want to), like DHP, Bowers, executive package, and luxury seating. Now, replacing dashboards and headliners comes with its own risks of rattles and creaks that probably aren’t worth it. But the wheels are easy. And a Dinan exhaust I bought this car to eventually do those things and let it be the weekend car like Joe-BMW33 and his 2018. I started all this because I thought my wife was going to want me to sell it for reasons I won’t go into. And if I were going to, it would need to be soon because of the maintenance items coming this year. But I think that’s worked itself out. Now I’m just in my obsessive window shopping cycle and that’s also going to have to work itself out. Haha

There is a Dravit M8 GC with Tartufo/White interior at my local dealer. I didn’t even ask about driving it. Didn’t want to make the guy tell me no. But he did say no one has looked at it yet. This small market is tough for that car. People here that spend $120k on a car are going to buy a top end 7, S Class, X7, Escalade, etc.

I’m basing my comments about the 8 depreciating slower than the 7 based on comparing pricing for similarly used cars. A 2021 750 with 30k miles is a less expensive preowned car than a 2021 M850 with 30k miles.

I think the biggest factor is probably that there are just less of them. Less demand for sure. But maybe the supply/demand curve is more favorable on them than the 7.

I’d think repairs are expensive on either. I doubt that has a lot to do with the disparity.
yea most likely the 2021 7 series is depreciating faster because of the newer model.

one good thing about the 8 series is that you can find older models, i think they started in 2019? and the LCI pretty much had no major changes at all.

obviously, would probably have to look harder to find a one in great condition /low miles etc.

As a car guy, I am sure it is a challenge to step out of the cycle, but all the like-minded company on the forums makes it even harder to do so Heck, it might even make me start looking at other cars haha (nope, not going to get tempted!).

Haha yeah. It’s like having a drinking problem and hanging out in a bar all day.

You're in a very fortunate position when you can say you have the best car.

My wife is always on edge when I tell her I'm going to test drive another car. She thinks I'll wind up buying it. Until I get back and say what I did or didn't like about it then say "but I still like my 5 year old car the best of anything I've driven". Then she relaxes until the next time.

“Please don’t buy another car” is a phrase said often at my house.

The key is to not tell them. I caught my current M550 on a local BMW dealer website. Drove out there (45 minutes) on my lunch (two) hour and bought it. I waited a few days to tell her (I was taking delivery the next day). I just matter of factly told her, hey, I bought a car. She was pissed. "Isn't this something we should discuss?". everyone says 911s handle incredibly well

umm, it's because they all have rear wheel steering. that is cheating! without it they would drive like an M5.

Hah, the first 911 I drove 20 years ago when rear wheel steering wasn't a thing (nor was AWD) handled like a go-kart. Rear wheel steering has only improved upon it. A 911 would never drive like an M5 and vice versa. I know your saying this tongue in cheek. Go take out a 911 if you can get your hands on one at the dealer. Even a 10 year old base with 50k miles on it.

Porsche is on another level when it comes to handling. BMW isn't even in the conversation and that's fine, they serve vastly different purposes.

LOL! You know though, I never thought of that, but then again, I have never drifted a car. I get a rush from having it stick like glue.

But you have me thinking, this Porsche Sport Classic I linked to is rear wheel drive only with rear wheel steering. They probably only move 5 degrees tops. One would still think you could still get them to slide and spin?

I mix it up…sometimes I tell her sometimes I don’t. But like you said, a discussion won’t change the outcome. Right after we got married I bought a E39 528i auto because my wife couldn’t drive a manual. In a year and a half she drove the car once and I was bored with it because of the transmission. So I traded it for a 528i 5MT m sport and told her she would have to learn to drive a manual. Every car purchase since has been only what I wanted. Except now it’s only automatics. She’s still with me after 28 years so you could say we have an understanding in this area.

I had the RSE in my car, too. A rare facing carseat was tight tight.

I believe you but Google says rear legroom in M550 and M850 are almost identical

I would spend considerable time in an M5 prior to buying. They are absolute beasts but at a cost with a hyper aggressive transmission I really prefer my M550. The 7 series is a family car to me no go.
