xHP Experiences ZF8
I don't see a lot of threads on xHP TCU tune for G series vehicles and want to hear about other's experiences with it. Is there a substantial difference in shift speed/smoothness? Does it warrant the nearly $500 cost including wifi adapter? I am curious why the license costs more for G-series vehicles. Also, which stage did you go and why? Thanks yall

Its only needed if you plan on tuning your car. When you increase HP and torque, you need to increase clamping pressure and this is what xHP does. I agree with Buddyboy, don't bother with stage 1. Stage 2 and 3 is all you need. It takes some time trying to get everything set up to your driving style, but the OTC maps are fine.
I'm pretty sure most people that have xHP set it to stage 3 anyways. I have a Bootmod3 tune with some basic bolt ons that require me to need xHP. The wifi adaptor is a moot point as it works with BM3, xHP, Bimmercode, and Protools. |

Thanks for the feedback. I’m currently running BM3 stage 1 OTS and and waiting on my downpipe to get to stage 2. The paddles have an incredible delay right now in manual mode so I would love the benefit of the faster response/shifts. Also guys, will Thor adapter work with G30 540i? I have it on order but was a little concerned as sites list it only compatible with E and F series cars but xHP says it works with G series

How true is it that xhp can ruin your transmission over time? I hear that because of the increase pressure in the tranny, it can cause abnormal wear and tear

I'm guessing any of these mods cause wear over time, even the safer ones. My concern is by how much? If a transmission that would've gone 200-250 miles goes bad at 1750,000 then okay. If it's under 100,000 then that's another thing. Same with the engines.

I use xHP Stage 2 with my BM3 Stage 1 91ACN tune. I flash with the same ENET cable I use for BM3 and Bimmercode, super reliable flashing method using a USB C adapter and my iPad Pro.
Overall I like the control it gives you over the transmission. Once you understand the idea that the DEC button now controls the shift speed and the stick to the left or normal sets the shift points (stage 2) you can set the car up anyway you want. I've turned on a bunch of the extra features and applied a 'custom' map to comfort mode and it's damn near perfect. In Sport+/S or M mode it's brutally quick. One downside is your upshift brap/fart is greatly reduced because the shifts are just that much faster- don't have to interrupt ignition nearly as long. Aside from take off in 2nd, I like the fact that of you go into paddle mode while in comfort you can have slow manual shifts. Stock map makes every M shift hard, sometimes I like driving around in manual mode and don't want the lightning shifts. Small thing lol. |

Were you able to use your ENET cable for the first xHP flash? I see their website says you cannot for the first one but after that it should work. Just want to make sure I don't waste money on an adapter if my ENET cable will work fine. |

I am curious as well. I tried using an ENET cable to flash xHP on my 540i but it said the cable was not supported/detected.

Yes, I only have an ENET cable worked fine. Does it really say that, I'm a little surprised I missed something like that lol.

I have it on my 540d and it was a noticeable improvement. Stock programming on the D was a bit laggy, and shifts were slow. XHP fixed all my complaints on the car, and it’s stock.

The BM3 tune, currently, and the Transmission tune are two separate tunes. With BM3, you are tuning the engine. XHP only tunes the transmission.
I’ve heard that BM3 might eventually add a transmission tune capability to their tune in the future, but with BM3 they usually have a setting you can toggle to prevent any hiccups. Kind of like how they have options for burble settings. As far as stage 2 goes, it would help if you are doing a lot of spirited driving. You will be able to take advantage of the extra torque the tune provides. It’s also helpful with changing your shift points as well. |

I daily drove with stage 3 no problem, but a few months ago I went down to stage 2. Stage 3 was too rough for the wife and kids on long drives. Stage 2 gives me all the options I need.

I've been on XHP Stage 3 for two years now on my daily ride and love it. No issues at all and it's still a perfect mix in my view (i.e. as per the above comment, regarding the DEC switch - allows you to use different modes to really alter the mood of the car)

I love these threads. I understand a lot more than I used to, but so much is still over my head. Especially the transmission. I still can’t decide if I want to go all in and look at tunes or swap to a M550.

Haha I don’t doubt that. Just a matter of where the dollars go first.
