It's done for the weight and balance of the trunk. Adding weight on the rear most part will change the closing and opening characteristics of the trunk lid.

news to me! this would be good for the few I have read that were having trunk issues with their trunk tension.

never adjusted mine and everything works awesome so i plan on leaving it alone, don't want to mess with it and take the chance of making it to loose or tight

Dumb question: ever since I put MPE spoiler on my F80 YMB, I have noticed more dirt on rear bumper. Can someone explain why?

It's SUPER simple, literally takes 2 minutes and requires no tools. Just pull back the trunk lining, pull the spring into the new position.

The spoiler is creating low pressure and swirling at the back of the car which allows dust and exhaust crap to settle on the bumper. Mine did it even before I fitted the spoiler. Drive in the wet and look at the amount of dirt that accumulates on the back of the car.

I have always installed with Betalink but this is the first time I have used 3M so I'm sorta of a newb.

I was wondering what others who have installed it with 3M did during their install and what sort of results they were getting.

also any tips on removing it? hair dryer to heat it up work?

thanks!
I know this thread is pretty old already but I made the video anyway just in case you ever need to remove double side tape again try this method I use. This method works good on tapes that isn't so old, if the tape is withered it won't work as it'll just break off.

never to late. I have STILL not removed the spoiler and re installed it correctly. I have not had time to sit and do it.

either way the more tips of the trade I can have in my arsenal the better!

i had to reinstall mine as well. I purchased a roll of the double sided tape that BMW uses from the parts department then used Auto Finesse Bug Tar remover to prep the spoiler and my trunk. I took the bottom portion of the red plastic on the tape off then peeled up a corner of the top portion. i slipped it into place and tacked the bottom then peeled the top through the edge i left up. Quick write up lol.

so to remove the spoiler (I have f80) did you just start on one side and start lifting it up? seems like putting too much flex might deform the plastic, crack the paint, etc... thanks!

Fishing line works as well.... its probably stronger than floss, and won't leave a minty aftertaste. I removed my spoiler without heat.

funny you say that .. I just had to use floss to retrieve this camaro from behind the mesh... my kid must've put it through the grille & it fell down there lol.

I wanted to remove my stock lip, paint it gloss black and replace but I'm a little concerns I won't get it quite right and it'll drive me insane. maybe I could glue a couple blocks down resting against it to index it before removal... hmm...

cool gadget... unless it's $5 I don't think I could justify it for a single use but maybe people could rent it to each other like they pass around the RTAB tool.

There's a Rube Goldberg device if I've ever seen one. I know that dental floss can be tough on your fingers, but one just needs to put on some gloves.
