On my 2006 Z4 M Roadster there is constant power to the cigarette lighter, even when everything is off and the car is locked. I used to keep a USB converter plugged in to power my phone until I went to pull it out one day and discovered it was warm. It completely fell apart in my hand. I plugged in another USB converter with a light on it and discovered that the 12V outlet was always live. Good thing it didn't eventually cause a fire! I ended up finding a hard-wired dual USB outlet designed for marine use and mounted it in the panel below the radio and I have a very short flat USB 3.0 cable to power my Samsung S5.

In my wife's 335is Coupe there isn't a 12V outlet on the console but there is one underneath the glove box above the passenger footwell. It does power off when the car is ignition is off. I use it with a dual USB adapter and a coiled USB/micro-USB cable to power my phone when I'm in her car.

Not sure why BMW isn't consistent with their 12V outlets.

Don't worry, just leave the car and close it.

The electronics plugged into the cigarette lighter will eventually turn off.

For some reason the car is feeding power into the sockets for a few more minutes, maybe there's some practical explanation behind it but I have not investigated.

I have my radar unit connected and it always gets disconnected after a while.

Just got my F82 M4 today and it doesn't look like my RD shuts off at all after I lock the car. This pisses me off...

It will, you just have to wait a minute or two.

If your V1 is powered by the SAVVY unit it will take the car up to 60 seconds to power down the OBD port.

+1 it shuts off after 1 or 2 minutes, I tested it a couple of days ago, so no worries about battery draining

I coded the same thing. Do you notice that the dash lights around the cluster stay on after the car is locked? I didn't notice it did that before I coded but I figure it was because I was too busy being pissed the radio was still on. Didn't know if this was some unintended consequence of the coding.

When you say you had it coded, what exactly do you mean. I just purchased my first M3, and it drives me crazy that the electronics (phone, radio, etc.) stay on after you open the door.
