Thanks for all the responses.

I just looked at Hanscom. For 6 year/120k(good till 2029) is $3049. The 5/120k was only $90 cheaper. It won't let me click on the "enhanced electronics" option. I think I really want this option....don't I?
I'm going to leave my contact info and wait till they contact me.

I now have have 41k, but I have experienced some warranty issues: T-stat leaked and took out 2 or 3 ECU's(computers?), then the entire digita gauge cluster with speedometer etc, shifted to the left by about an inch(had to be replaced), and just recently I had to have the turbo coolant lines replaced/upgraded. Luckily all under warranty! My CPO warranty expires at the end of March and I'm not comfortable not having a warranty after having these issues.
The dealer quoted me ~$5400 to extend the CPO for another 2 years, and about $5700 for a third party warranty that covers a few more items but no loaner. The loaner is not that big of a deal.

I've read the thread about 3rd party warranties. It seems like Route 66 is the way to go. I'm in Long Island, NY....anyone have recommendations for what credit union offers it? I'm curious as to what they would quote me. I looked at Hanscom and PenFed but I couldn't find info on the warranty.

Thanks.
I got it with aspire federal credit union back in the day. They are now taken over by penfed

I am none of those. I took a car loan out with them in 2015 through a dealership and part of the loan was the requirement to open a $25 savings account. I have been a member since then and financed/refinanced a few more cars since. My M550 is not financed though them, but being a member allowed me to buy the warranty.

I will email my contact over there and get back to you. PM your email address and I will cc you.

UPDATE on Hanscom Federal Credit Union and Route66 Extended Warranty!

I just got off the phone with a Loan Rep at HFCU and was floored to find out that they dont require you to be a Member OR have an active vehicle loan with them to get Route66!!
I've called 5 other Credit Unions and all 5 required you to have an active loan on the vehicle and a membership.
Evidently HFCU uses a 3rd party to handle Route66 and I gave her my Email.
She said I would be contacted within 24 hours.

HFCU phone # is 800 656 4328.
Speak with a Loan rep.

Another update for those wanting Route 66 through HFCU.
Especially if you have a M550.
Start off by saying you have a 5 Series. Do not say M550. I found this out the hard way as Route 66 does not cover "M" Cars. Only after I gave my VIN did they realize they would be able to give me the coverage.

This is basically how I started out with them. Not much conversation. I contacted a rep via email and said I wanted to buy Route 66. He said send me your VIN and a picture of the odometer. That's all they need, VIN tells all. HFCU rep really doesn't need to know anything and probably doesn't know the difference between a 3,4,5,7,8 or M car.

They send the VIN and Odometer Photo to Route 66 and from there I got my quote.

Hi Joe,

I just got an official quote from Ewa Tepper, asst Manager at the Jamaica Plains Branch. She did not ask for mileage at all. Just year and VIN.
Its the top tier plan, 0 deductible and transferable to new owner at no cost.

Here it is:

Hi Mark,
Per our phone conversation as of today January 11, 2023 the quote for the 2020 BMW will cost you $2699.00 for 7 years or 120K miles expires 01/11/2030 or when odometer reads 120K miles.

Sincerely
Ewa

Nice, I am guessing since it is $400 less than what I paid, they aren't including the addendum to cover NAV, Headunit, etc.?

Not sure, I've asked for the coverages in the policy to be sent.
But according to her, everything except the normal wear/tear items were covered.
I will double check though. Thanks for the heads up.

I wont purchase this until mid October, but I like to be prepared in advance.

I was trying to discern this from the previous notes in the thread but seems clear after this one: the Route 66 warranty years, is from the date of purchase of the warranty, not the original in-service date of the vehicle, correct? That seems atypical, at least from what BMW and other manufactures do with their CPOs and extensions. Honestly seems like a no brainer!

7 Years from the date of purchase. Here is a snip from my signed contract. I bought it on 11/30/2022:

Joe,

I just got off the phone with Malory Parker at Route 66.
She assured me that the EEP package is part of the Easy Street coverage.
I mentioned that your price was $400 more than mine and she said every quote goes off Year of Vehicle and Mileage.
Which would make sense since I have only 13k miles and are 2 years newer.
Either way, for 7 years and 120k miles with 0 deductible and transferable its well worth it IMO.

Ah that makes total sense. Given my car is two years older than yours with double the miles, I feel pretty good about a $400 spread. I wonder though once your out of factory or CPO warranty, will the price change? In other words, if you buy 66 now (which I know you won’t), maybe it’s cheaper because they know you won’t use it until October?

We will see. My quote didn’t change from June to when I bought it in December. So you’re probably good.

Glad you got hooked up with EEP. A few other members here weren’t as lucky.

I dont plan on putting more than 2k miles (if that) before I purchase in September, so I doubt the price will change. Called my local BMW Indie shop and asked them about Route 66. They said as long as it covers seals/gaskets go for it. Wil be asking them to go over everything in the car a few months prior to my Warranty expiring in October just so I can get anything wrong fixed at the Dealership. One thing he did ask me is if my car was modded in any way. Which i replied no. He mentioned they have had issues with adjusters denying claims on modded cars.

Nice. I did my due diligence on the mod factor. I am all set there, no concerns. The only time they send out a claims adjuster is for something significant, like an internal engine failure. My SA nor my Indie is motivated to disclose I have a piggy back, which my indie would pull if someone was actually going to come out. My dealer replaced turbo coolant lines with the piggy back right next to them.

Yeah, both my dealer SA and Indie said to jump on it. I think one control arm and bushing job will pay for the contract.

My thought going into this is that I hope to never use it.

My thought going into this is that I hope to never use it.
Having this warranty has paid for itself already for me. A month ago I had a claim for coolant leak with the turbos, ect.. and they sent an adjuster just to make sure BMW isn't making shit up which in return paid off because BMW claimed oil pan gasket was leaking and adjuster said no such failure is present. Regardless, process was easy and they paid the dealer quickly. Also if you are tuned, this is obviously a better route than BMW extended warranty as Joe stated, an indie shop will not disclose there is a tune or anything. I now my indie shop said not to worry if we are even in the situation.

This is very insightful. Do you all think it's better to wait until the factory warranty is almost running out or get it earlier? The car has 2k miles on it right now.
