I might as well post this publicly as it was hard for me to find someone who knows about Route 66 at HFCU.

Here is the person who helped me out.

I haven’t used them. As I noted in the thread I was told they wouldn’t cover my PHEV.

But, from what I learned when I was shopping for them. They operate like other third party warranty companies in that they provide a credit/debit card to the shop to cover repairs and they cover all accredited repair shops. So you’re not stuck with a limited network.

No, their HQ is in Arkansas.
One of the Credit Unions I called was calling Route66 by another name, but I cant remember it now.
Anyway, this is right off their website. For sure I'm purchasing this before my factory expires this October.

Man, I was curious so I asked my finance guy what an extended warranty for the 540 would cost if I brought it from the dealership I work at. A 96-month 125k miles B2B and a powertrain warranty would cost $10k... that's the dealership's cost.

I haven't looked into route 66 yet. Wonder what something similar from route 66 would go for.

$3,100 bucks for 84 months 120k miles for me. It's exclusionary and there aren't many exclusions.

Is that from the purchase date or the vehicle or manufacturer date?

I seriously cannot wrap my mind around what a good deal this warranty is. It’s one of those “it must be too good to be true” type of things but obviously everyone on here talks about how great it is.

Oh I have and had the same thoughts. I probably will be skeptical until my first claim goes through smoothly. At the end of the day, I heard good things from other members and just said fuck it.

Everyone says you should wait until the manufacturer or CPO warranty expires before purchasing Route 66 but I’m afraid it’s going to go away or something… lol

I waited until 30 days before my CPO was up. I got my first quote almost a year prior and decided to wait to get closer. Luckily, the price was the same.

I have it and have had a claim. Don't stress it, it covers a great deal of items and well worth it. Paid for itself with my first claim.

The right answer there is a murky one.

It is good in that if you total the car you may only get a prorated refund or none at all depending on the terms of the extended warranty. Not sure if Insurance would cover it as I never had that scenario.

But the murky part is after market warranties could scale pricing up based on the time of purchase (in terms of mileage and age history) to account for increase claim risk. How much if any adjustment would occur is unknown and would probably vary across companies so getting a clear answer anecdotally on forums wouldn’t be easy.

I say, strike when it makes sense to you and the deal makes sense to you and to let it go its way.

For instance, buying my BMW ESC a year or two after I took delivery was cheaper than when I took delivery (via the reputable contact shared on the forums). Why did the price go down? No clue, but it did. And I don’t think it was due to them padding it as their pricing was the best I could find in both cases. I think BMW just adjusted their pricing (BMW had also gotten rid of the deductible which was the reason I had delayed getting it. Not a fan of deductibles for these things).

See that's what I am contemplating. My factory warranty ends March 2023. CPO kicks in right after.

After that, I've got nothing other than my trusted indy shop to work on the car if something goes south. I drive maybe 5k~ miles a year? So, I'm still in between the, "is an extended warranty needed if I drive 5k~ miles a year"?

Plus, I don't know if I am going to keep the car for 5+ years or so. I might trade it in for an M3/M4 who knows

The only thing making me nervous is all the tech in the G30. If say the lane keep assist goes out or something, that's gonna cost a fortune to fix.

We've had 5 year old Fords coming in our serivce department needing $8k worth of work with only 60k miles. Granted Fords aren't the greatest cars

I had a really bad experience with a Mercedes within 6-8 months of my CPO expiring and I promised myself I’ll never own a newer car out of warranty… even my Accord has a warranty lol

See my moms got 2017 E300. It's got maybe 36k miles on it? She brought it CPO in 2019 with 27k miles on it. That's probably a car I wouldn't buy a warranty on just because it hardly gets driven and the hood as hella room to work in. So, everything is easily accessible.

But, again it's got a little more tech than my 540. My dad brought an extended warranty for the Minivan back in 2011. I think we only used it once to get a wheel replaced because it cracked.

Not aiming to tip your hand, but keep in mind. The CPO warranty is very limited. The BMW ESC would act as a "wrap" to expand the coverage to be more comprehensive. So there is some value to getting an EW when the factory warranty expires, but before the CPO expires. A third party warranty would obviously expand coverage as well.

Does that expanded coverage matter? That's up to you...

Yeah, I know CPO doesn't cover much. $3,000 for an 84-month 120k~ mile warranty is not bad at all. Just need to figure out if I am going to keep the car for that long. Also, if the warranty starts from the day I buy it or the cars production date.

I just asked my younger brother (17 years old) what he thinks of an extended warranty. He hit me with the, "b*tch, you don't even drive the car "

Makes sense. Definitely check the cancellation policy.

Third party like Route 66 is almost always from date of purchase as they don’t have an easy way to verify date of sale. BMW ESC will be aligned to initial sale date.

PenFed has the Route 66 contracts to skim and see if they have limits that seem problematic or what the off ramp is.

I'll probably call Penfed or Fox Valley Credit union to see how much I can get a route 66 warranty for. Might see if I can talk my mom into it for the Mercedes also.

Is the 5 year 100k mile warranty the longest from Penfed?

It’s 7 years from the day you buy it or when your odometer hits 120k. I’d guess most people are going to hit 120k first if they still have the car.

A friend at church has an F250 with (I believe) the diesel (I don't know the engine, but the truck isn't that old). It's been in the shop for seems like a couple of months. First they thought it was the HPFP and replaced that, then a wiring harness that he's waiting & waiting to arrive. It's got some kind of knock.
