Stock dyno of n63tu3 by Dinan
I kn ow this is not new news but just found the image of what the m550 is supposedly producing stock wise as performed by Dinan
Quite incredible if this is to be believed 552hp and 602 ft lb of torque (that’s 800nm by by reckoning) It’s power at just 3000rpms matches the max the 540 produces I’d post the image but having difficulty from my app )easy on a pc though) |

The stock B58 in 340-hp spec also dynos at around 370 and its timed numbers have never really matched up with the stated hp/weight. |

How come the figures measured here are a not insignificant increase over the official ones?
I assume for type approval these cars are measured so why the descrepancy! |

But on HP and Tq, BMW has always hedged significantly. Look like they used some of the hedge on the TU2 on the TU3.

Actually I’ll have to look on my certificate of conformity and see if the power is listed. I only recall emissions readings on there so I’ll have to look
First car I’ve ever been given one of these, I was told I may need it if I travelled from the U.K. to say France and if officials were being fussy they could demand a certificate of conformity |

Well I looked at my certificate of conformity and it states maximum power (390kw) amongst a load of other stuff
Of interest at least to me is the best fuel consumption which it states is 31.7mpg (U.K.) Well I get that typically on fast roads and beat it on motorways including a one off test where I got 45.2mpg |

BMW's power is for worst scenario. When you are driving at 10K ft height where you start to get altitude sickness, your BMW is still providing the stated HP figures. On sea level it can do much better.
On the other hand, domestic cars usually states the power figure under optimistic situations, and you'd lose like 100hp when driving in Utah. |

Those HP/Torque numbers are at the Crank. Still impressive, but much is lost as it goes through the drivetrain to the wheels.

The only way that's crank data is if someone ripped the engine out and used an engine dyno. Otherwise, it's driveline loss reverse math from a chasis dyno. Be interesting if they ran 2 or more stock cars to see how that data returns.

the gears are called "torque multipliers" from my understanding 6th gear has a torque multplication of 1, all lower gears have a torque multiplication factor of > 1 ie, if you dynoed the car in 2nd gear you'll see over 1000 ft lb for example (you then calculate the hp from torque using a formula) so if you dyno at 5th or 4th gear everything else will be wrong as they are all calculated from the torque read out from the dyno |
