I don't mind the HUD, except it makes it feel like I am steering an 8 meter yacht.
Personally I prefer the Alpina display which has all the right things in the right place (eg, speed).. |

The “No’s” are getting smoked. I would never have guessed so many would find pleasure with this erratic technology.

Shows how wrong you are with liking the HUD too.

I disabled the gesture control in mine. But just to chime in, I do like the HUD! But it's not that important in an automatic car for me. I had a 1LE running manual trans and I took it to track days on a nearly monthly basis, so having the tach on the HUD was helpful for shifting while keeping eyes on the track. In my M550, it's just for aesthetics I guess.

Seems pretty even to me! 21 use it all the time, 15 never use it, and 6 occasionally (which pretty much means they would not miss it).

Gesture feature was removed from '23 vehicles. No idea if I'd use it or not. Seems pretty gimmicky to me, so it didn't bother me that it was removed.

I use it for mute and volume control. TSB called for software update. Afterwards it works much better.

Don’t use gesture but love the HUD. It’s in my sight line when driving fast and as I’m getting older the hud is perfectly focused whereas the instrument cluster isn’t.

Also found out that if you use Apple Maps, it displays driving directions on the HUD. So whenever I don't need added info from Waze (like traffic, cops, etc) , I use that instead. Really wish it showed info from Waze also. But I guess that's Apple's competitive advantage on CarPlay implementation here. |

[QUOTE=Greywall;29812972]Yeah, the HUD is really useful. I use it quite a bit while using the assisted driving features and usually just take a quick glance to check the speed limit.

For people that don’t like it they either don’t have it or need to learn to use it better (minimize maps/ lower screen etc). Must have for me especially as my 540 is fully optioned at almost 80k. These cars are not 35k Hondas. No hate to Honda just saying. If you don’t have hud get it on your next car and you will add it to your must have list. |

I was using it originally to turn up and down the volume. The double finger was initially set to skip tracks but then it would randomly pick up my hand as skip and would skip tracks in the middle of a song or a mix.
I changed the double finger to turn the screen on/off and then that got annoying after a while when it kept recognizing my hand or fingers as double so i just disabled it. I noticed when you hold your phone it picks it up as double finger too and would trigger. Weird. |

I use gesture control to skip tracks all the time. I'll still use the volume knob over gesture but I'd say I change tracks more often than changing the volume.
I love having the HUD. I recently learned that if I reduce the HUD display setting, the nav maps and track info shows in the tach. It's about the only way to "customize" what the instrument cluster shows in my G30 idrive 6; standard speed and tach or speed and nav/media by reducing what the HUD will display. |

I thought it was pretty cool at first... but half the time it didn't work for me, and the other half it did things when I didn't intend it to. Point out something to my wife, radio goes silent or whatever. I finally just disabled it.
