Have you driven the new 5 Yet? 21 / G30 G31
Keen to know what it is like.
Seems to me screens, looks, seats and sound improved. But what about the noise from the road and overall quality and feel when moving? Got a 3 series loaner - put me off - its brand new - squeeky brake pedal - plasticy - terrible road noise - steering rough noise when moving the wheel static. I have a 7 and I hate the air suspension - oh... and the amount of quality control issues I have had with it. Mechanically ok tho. |

I would suggest a drive , that's the only way you can make a decision. Doesn't matter what any of us here think , it's your decision as to whether you like one or not.
I've got or driven a LCI but have a 540 from 2017. I would say that generally the interior is high quality at base spec but can be improved and look better by way of simply colours, choice of leather or headlining. This obviously can potentially add quite a bit to the cost. In terms of handling there are so many variations as regards tyres, whether normal or run flat, size of wheel and suspension. These can have a big effect on how the car handles , again making the best choice for you you'll have to try potentially a few possibilities. Engines again can make a big difference again depending upon what you want out of but whether economy , performance, sound or smoothness. Sorry if that answer sounds like a colour but you just have to try one out for yourself. No harm of course in asking opinions here and you will get many ! Have fun choosing (or not) always one of the best things in life choosing a new car! |

Not sure the seats changed any but definitely some styling changes for the LCI, and the main center console screen got larger. Not sure if sound changed any.
Road noise is not bad. But then again I drive around with Sports+ a lot, so I don't pay close attention. The RFTs it came with (Goodyear) were quite noisy. The Conti DWS06 I put on seem a good deal quiet.

I just test drove a 2021 M550i last week, I own a 2019 540i. As far as sound interior quality, etc. it all seemed the same, although the 550 had the upgraded leather, which was very nice. And of course, as an "M"550i the ride was firmer than my base 540i.
I personally don't care for the new instrument panel, but it's slowly getting put into all BMWs, so there is no choice about it. It's either that, or go buy a Mercedes. I jest. Mercedes makes a nice car. For old people. Anyway... here in the USA market, we get the "sensatec" dashboard covering, which is standard in the 550, optional in the 540. I think it looks poor, and personally I'll pay the $700 to upgrade it to leather in the 550. Or if buying a 540, just stay with the plastic. The options and packages that you get in the UK are different than ours, including the odd placement of the steering wheel.
