3G or 4G?
I have a 2018 G30. Connected drive expired in May. How do I find out if my car is equipped with 3G or 4G? I've contacted the Connected Drive assistance number (no help), contacted my dealer (no help)...well, they think* it's 3G. But I'm wondering how our 2017 Chevy Silverado is equipped with 4G yet the 2018 G30 is 3G???? I tried renewing connected drive online and I got an error message all day. Not sure what's going on. Thanks.

After 2 days on the phone with multiple BMW people I finally figured it out. I logged out of website and re-entered with my husband's login info and then voila! It let me make a purchase. I can do everything in there except, apparently, make a simple purchase.

You'll make no friends around here with that attitude. Lol
Honestly, there's some questions so easily answered using Google. We're here to help, but we're not your servant.

I've spent 2 days trying to get info from BMWUSA and my dealer. No help. When I asked for help on this forum I was exhausted and thought maybe some kind person could just tell the what LTE was. I was "researched out" at that point. I'm familiar with Google, but thanks. |

That said, I wasn't the "first person" you encountered and labeled a "smart ass". You replied with the same comment to another respected user of this forum with the same comment LogicalApex . So....... I'm just saying, people who provide help on these forums do so on their own accord. Many of us have busy days and we try to help because we know owners struggle to get help from those who are paid to provide help. In case you care, LTE is 4G cellular technology. LTE-Advanced takes LTE to the next level, providing more data channels, ability to do calling over LTE, etc... it's what at&t called 5GE (5G Evolution was at&t's name for LTE Advanced). The losers at at&t took a 4G technology and scammed their customer base and called it 5G"E". Glad you got it figured out. Don't worry, the LTE radios in your car are good for at least another 5 years.....Anyone's guess beyond that.

My understanding is, unlike the F10, the G30+ is upgradeable. IMHO, it was criminal for BMW to use 3G in the F10 when 4G had already been commissioned.

Regardless, thanks for the info above. After 2 days of this I finally got everything updated but not with BMW's help. It's all been through my own research. I find most of those associated with BMW to be lacking in knowledge. Hugely lacking. I am glad to know that the LTE radio in my car has some years left on it. That was my next research project. Thank you. |

This is certainly good to know. And I agree, criminal. I also find it ridiculous that the service people at my dealership don't know that 2018's are equipped with 4G. I was told I needed to bring my car in for an update. Wrong. That just didn't sound right to me because even my husband's 2017 Silverado LTZ came with 4G. Regardless, I still had to chase it down to make sure.
