There is a battery in the headliner near the antenna which needs to be replaced, if not the emergency call function will not work again. It should be covered under warranty, if you are still under warranty.

Did u have your roof wrapped? I had my roof wrapped and they didn't seal the shark fin correctly which let water get in. That unit had to be replaced.

You should be fine then, That unit under the fin controls that system. Water prob did drip in there, as long as you didn't tamper with anything it's their equipment. Good luck

Mine went on and off for several days before I took it in. That is the behavior of a dying battery in the system. Make an appointment and take it in for replacement if you want the SOS system to work reliably.

It was battery, every 4 years this is going to have to be fixed.

So you have to access the area under the shark fin every 4 years to replace a battery? What type of battery is it? Also, it looks like there is no reason for the shark fin in that picture.

Very frustrating, indeed. I suppose one could live without the SOS system, but I can't live with the warning message overriding everything else. Maybe someone knows if it can be coded off.

Got the message "emergency call system malfunction" on the dash directly where mileage and other info is normally displayed. My independent shop said it requires removal of the headliner and didn't want to touch it. Took it to the dealer today, diagnosed for $250 and said it was the TCB battery. They had taken the battery out and tested it, so half the job was done. They wanted to charge an additional $460 to replace it. I said no, so they put it back together, and I paid the $250 and drove home.
I asked the independent shop if they would reset the fault code if I replaced the battery myself and they declined. So, I'm researching how to reset it myself.

What do I need to buy to do that...there are so many devices available it makes me dizzy looking through Amazon.

Spent about 10 minutes in the garage removing the battery. Part number 9 361 678 - 03, I'll order one and do more research on how to reset it.

So this is going to repeat every 4 years or so?
