The comment doesn’t make sense, my M3 did amazing on public roads safely! Why buy a performance Car then if you live in the us? Lol your trying way too hard here, you enjoy a lesser Car and I ll Enjoy my 550... talk about enough power, 550 clocked 0-62 in 3.5 seconds with launch control, sounds and feels amazing to drive with all along comfort.

The M550 isn't a performance car. It's a luxury car that you can brag about 0-62 time and that's about the only advantage over the 540i.

The weight balance sucks, its too heavy, and the sound is fake cause its pumped through the speakers since the interior of the G30 is so damn quiet. It's no smoother than the 540i. So I too fail to see the point of it.

Clearly that's my personal opinion and I hope that anyone who has an M550i enjoys their car if thats what makes them happy. Its just not for me and I dont understand it, but that shouldn't stop anyone else from enjoying it.

Now comparing the 530i to 540i, there is a marked difference in real world driving and smoothness. I chose the 530i because that difference didn't matter to me much. I got it for the extremely comfortable seats and incredible interior and clean exterior. Its a perfect commuter car, it's not my canyon carver or track car.

You want a performance car, get an M2, M3/4 Comp pack, or any Porsche with 2 doors.

Sure, they use fake sound on the inside, but not on the outside - and it sounds wonderful on the outside.

There's a nice roar when it first fires up, especially if you're in an enclosed area like a parking garage. And, especially when there are young'uns around (gawd, I'm getting old), I like to put it in Sport just to cruise by. Always turns heads.

No it's not a performance car in the "canyon carver" sense. What the M550 does it does very well and that is a luxury 4 door sedan that can accelerate effortlessly in any condition whether that's entering highways, passing etc. and the 530, 540 just doesn't come close to it in that regard. If that isn't important to you then that's why they make other models but please don't think it's about bragging rights when you just think you're right and the other guy is wrong when it's just a matter of what's important to you and what's not.

I haven't driven a 530i, but I had a 540i loaner and I own a 550i. The 540i enters highways and passes quickly and effortlessly. I didn't feel any lack of power or strain on the engine. The 550i is a beast, but to notice that you need to be pushing the car in ways that are very far from anything that's safe and legal on public roads in the US. On the other hand, the extra weight is noticeable.

My recommendation is to test drive before deciding which car to get, and not make assumptions... I would personally get the 540i instead of the M550i. It's lighter, it offers much better fuel economy and range, no annoying fake noise in Sport mode, a reliable engine, and a lower price. All of this while offering more engine performance than anything that can be realistically used on US public roads. It's the one to get in my experience.

Yeah that is my impression as well. When I compared the 530 to the 540 the biggest downside with the 530 is that its not effortless as you describe the 540. It doesn't really strain, but its not buttery smooth the way the 540 is. I'd say it would be easily mistaken for a lesser brand's v6, but definitely cant be confused with the silkiness of a bmw inline 6

That's a beauty to be sure. Congrats!

I'm assuming those 668M's are the staggered 245/275 setup? What brand and model tires did BMW use for your production?

Thanks!

To me the 540 seemed effortless and felt like it always had power on reserve. I guess I dont crave anymore than what the 540 offers.

I've always been the type to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, so perhaps i'll never understand the M550. Doesn't mean its bad, its just not for me but I'm glad you like yours as it is a spectacular car.

I'm not the askee of your question, but mine came with Michelin PSS4, and I got the 668M wheels.

As they say, different strokes for different folks. The 540 is lighter for sure and will be a better handling car but these are not sports cars by any means so that difference is meaningless to me. Yes fuel economy is is better in the 540 but if fuel economy was a priority these cars would not be on my list and the annual difference in total fuel cost is not really substantial. Don't really understand how a M550 can't realistically be used on public roads but a 540 can. The top speed on both is well above all speed limits so it's acceleration that's the difference. I had a 550 and now an M550 and had no engine issues at all so reliability has not been an issue at all. I test drove the 540 for a weekend and i was impressed for the reasons you mentioned but i guess my definition of effortless is different than yours but that's what makes horse racing.
My problem is you feel you have to justify your decision by making mine wrong.

Just leaving this here for those who are confused. Is a huge difference between a 550i and a M550i. I keep reading about 540 and 550 and i think some forget about the difference between the M performance and the regular model. I drove the 540, 550 and M550 and trust me it is a huge difference between the three. So of course i went for the M550i. Awesome M performance luxury car. Lots of power, super confortable and it looks amazing even tho is not too many changes on the body.

On the car already

Gorgeous!!!!
Couple of questions on your setup
- Eisenmann exhaust, is the sound that much different than stock Mperf?
- Where did you get the Black M550i badge or did you paint the original?
- KW suspension, doesn't list M550i as an application they address on the web site, is it not updated yet? any idea how that compares to the recently announced Dinan mod?

Thanks

Hi thanks
The exhaust is a huge difference from M performance.

1st M550i Eisenmann Exhaust http://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1430509

The Badges i got from IND Distributions
https://ind-distribution.com/product...es=176&size=44

The KW well im station in Germany and KW use my car to develop the suspension for it so is not in the market yet (should be available soon) but the driving is way better or at least it is for me i like to have my cars lower and i always go with KW V3.

Congratulations! She is a beauty! I am due to pick up mine this Friday and I'm a little nervous that it has all the right options as I did not order or drive it yet. Have only seen it from dealer website photos.
