I hope not.. but I will buy the dash cover for these situations.

U know if there is contration and expansion so often it could be bad in longer period of time.

Probably a good idea to get all the options that have this crackling sound and then the options that don't have this sound. Or lack of options.

So far everyone with Sansatec and HK stereo have this problem. Anyone here that doesn't have this problem? What are your options?

I don't have HK or Sensatec and I have the problem - along with the useless AC.

I don't have sensatec or HK and mine does not make any noise. It was in the sun all day this week and no noise when the ac came on.

You should get that checked out. Last week we had 22 degrees here and the ac was keeping the car cool while being set to 18 degrees. When the sun is not shining but it is still 19 degrees outside I have the change the Idrive setting from full cold as I find the air too cold coming out of the vents.

Or open the window, low tech but generally effective. Good for you fresh non air conditioned O2...

Yes the ac is pretty effective.

What is the purpose of the two air vents in the grill behind the idrive screen? It seems to me that all they do is cause crackling sounds when the cold air hits them and also they take away from the effectiveness of the AC system as you can't get a decent blast of air to your face because half the air is coming out of these vents. They are not designed to hit the windscreen as there is a dedicated vent strip for that purpose, so what are they for?

evening guys

well you shouldnt tell this info to me. I have been in saloon and tried push dash in G30 and G31. Both were cracking especially around radio (the glossy part).
Piano black has been cracking too after the push.

But who push it hm? I just hope I will not hear these sound during ride in about 1-2 years..

Now I am thinking why I didnt push it in 7er too.. I am curious about it.

I think G30 is more beautiful and looks nicer overall than G11 because G11s come with bigger and narrower grill as well as squinted headlamps towards the corners that gives them a intimidating look

I have a new 2017 M3 CP, and after about 3 weeks got this Creaking/rattle from the "B" pillar area, i was recommended Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Stick
to apply to the door seals, I thought well give it go , and it worked no more noises.
I thought it was something loose but no it was not.

common issue. had it on my F10 and E39 and used the same product to cure it. Lasts for years before having to reapply.

Trick also seems to be to avoid any polish on the metalwork where those rubber seals meet and also to avoid silicon.

It's just the body flexing and the doors rubber seals rubbing against that metal

I used that stuff on my E46 M3 convertible to reduce noise of the rubber. Worked wonders

Have now resorted to blowing AC air into footwell, avoid dash and upper vents as it reduces the cracking sound I get on the G30

Haven't heard any such sound so far but then again max temp here so far was 22. What kind of temp causes those sounds?

Haven't got my car in the states yet but while I was in Europe the cracking happened a lot. Usually about 5-10 minutes from starting the car into driving after leaving the car in the sun. I have sensatec + Hk on the 540.

Sorry guys. There is a wild combination of hot and cold weather that New England has provided over the last month or two, and I don't see the problem with any cracking sounds. Maybe real hot 95+ weather has been missing so I will wait and update you in a few weeks.
I feel really spoiled that I have no issues except the random "how do you turn the car off" problem. Other than that I continue to be on honeymoon with this car.

you would think BMW would have seen this as they test in hot place such as Death valley fro one example (at least used to as I recall seeing them testing the E60 out there years back.)

A new option appeared recently on the Luxemburgish configurator : (real) leather dashboard. It will cost twice the price of the sensatec one. It may reduce the noise appearing on plastic dashboard.

Hard for me to believe any crackling from the dashboard more probably from speaker grill in the middle of it as air vents next to it.

Noise is coming from inside dash speaker grill. Won't matter if plastic, sensatec or leather. Good thing is it does stop in a couple of minutes

Have you tried to pop the grill out and see if the noise is still there ?

Has anyone actually brought this to the attention of a dealer to see if there is any official BMW response or corrective action? As another poster mentioned you'd think this would have been designed out at ore production stage , it certainly doesn't become a premium car.
