Question Painting Calipers

Just a quick question around calipers, has anyone here got an E9x Space Grey with 313s thats painted their callipers themselves?

Recently spent a shed load of money on detailing products, but calipers are looking rusty and awful, which needs to be rectified!

Also, read a few posts about potentially voiding warranty on the breaks if painted. Anyone in UK faced any problems with warranty claims not going through?

There's no truth in that,my dealership paints the calipers and Hubs during the AUC.Also I have mine painted, did it myself.same calipers as yours and came out good!

Cool thanks for that. Got the link to the ebay seller too. I do like the look of the yellow, but might go for something a bit more subtle. Once painted, is it easy to remove, say if I wanted to paint it a different colour? Or could you just paint a few more coats of a different colour over the top?

It's tough stuff so I would doubt it but easily painted over.that paint was good stuff and cheap too.only used about half of even the smallest tin.recommend doing hubs too while wheels are off.

Depends on the paint u use. Some can go straight onto bare metal whereas some need a primer.

If primer is needed
Fronts need acid etch primer. Rears need zinc primer (anti rust)

I'm guessing this will do, although i'd still try and give the calipers a good clean prior to applying:

Around the same price as Kris mentions in another thread

Sorted, will order some tonight. Next is Alloy Wheel refurbs ... has anyone used Speedys (around midlands) for this? Or recommend anyone around Nottingham/Leicester?

Had one of those stupid moments a while back and took a corner waaaaaay to fast. Managed to take a chuck out of my left side alloys. Properly felt gutted after

I did mine at the weekend

I used hammerite smooth silver and a paintbrush. Looks pretty oem imo

Still doesn't hide the fact my brakes are like milk bottle tops

Painted the backing plates and hubs too

Always used hammerite in the past and on my D, quickly remove surface rust etc with wire brush and wet&dry sandpaper, then degrease and clean off then paint give it one thin cost wait a few hours then go over again and leave to dry/harden over night.

They will last and look good if you put the prep in.

I have done black calipers before

For some reason to me they don't look 'right' can't quite place my finger on it.

I like oem so i prefer silver

I also used a wire brush attatchment for a battery drill to get rid of the crap before hand and then some paint prep wipes. Then its painting time
