If the TV show was accurate, many of the junior sailors act like they're on a floating high school. Needing lectures about proper behavior before shore leave, trips to captain's mast, and even a sailor dishonorably booted from the ship mid-tour IIRC.....

20 would be a good round number.

Have you ever seen a carrier conduct flight operations?

Parking a carrier battle group off the coast of a country that needs a bit of a nudge is a proven foreign policy, as well. Each carrier battle group has more firepower than all of that unleashed in WW2.

Not really. The only nukes at sea are on board the Ohio Class SSBNs each carrying as many as 288 nuclear 300+ kt warheads.

Certainly could be wrong but. It makes perfect sense. Doesn't seem necessary to put a nuke on anything except a sub (at sea). So if that's accurate the Navy actually is doing what makes sense....highly unusual.

Once drone technology matures, the balance of power is going to shift. America will always be the team to beat, but if China learns to make serious drones and turns their manufacturing base towards churning them out en masse in a conflict, they will be very dangerous. Places like Taiwan would easily be overwhelmed.

Drone swarms could be an extremely cost effective yet dangerous weapon system.

Look at the havoc being caused by that drone swarm in Colorado. Every single branch of government has denied responsibility for operating them.....

It is not just about the drone itself, but the technologies installed on the Chinese drones are incredible. One of them is facial recognition.

People always laugh at the Chinese how they fail from different things, but what they do not realize is how the Chinese are determined at what they do and learn from their mistakes making them successful.

US is still the top operator of drones, not because of the tech on them but how much experience our military has in actual operations.

As a USN Vet we had a saying ingrained in us to live by. I cannot confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons onboard USS ————.
It is safe to say one of the biggest threats to the USA is Russian Boomers and we don’t have a US attack sub shadowing every one of them. If things go hot at any time and the Ruskies are going to launch they need to be killed and killed quick and make sure they're killed. Our surface ASW fleet stands ready and well armed to do so with what they have onboard. There’s no second chances if an insufficient weapon fails to get the job done.

I worked in a nuke facility where many of my friends were on boomers and fast attacks. I would not bet the farm on the fact that that we don't have a fast attack on every one of their boomers. Having said that they will get off a couple birds..but its the end of the world anyways.

You can tell I am a fan of subs. Rickover was a God.

I would bet the farm on it. I actually lived it and spent my time in the fleet on an ASW ships tracking their missile boats almost exclusively. Rest assured or in this case not so assured, we didn’t or don’t to this day have our attack boats on all of them nor do we have Destroyers or at the time our Frigates on all of them either. The deadly cat and mouse game we play with them isn’t all one sided as much as we would like.

Never did cross. Spent most of my service in N. and mid Atlantic, gulf, Med, I.O. Did come within 60nm or so a few times, once off Africa and another near Singapore and maybe more I don’t recall. Don’t know why the skipper didn’t just spend a couple hours for us cross over. In your 20 I’m sure you did several times. By the way, Thanks for your long service.
