Blend Mount Mirror Tap on 2019 M550Ix
So I am going to install a Blend Mount Mirror Tap on my 2019 M550ix. I installed one on my wife 2018 M3. It turns on as soon as you unlock the car and turns off as soon as you cut off the power.
https://www.amazon.com/Colorfullife-...-garden&sr=1-5 I have seen a couple of conflicting posts. Some people say there is no switched wire/lead in the mirror on the 2019. Other people say the line there is switched but like the aux port it stays on for 5+ minutes after shutdown. I have also ready that there might have been a wiring change between 2018 and 2019. I would be ok with that but I do not want to bother attempting the install if the wire/lead is always hot. At that point I will just hardwire it. Thanks in advance. |

I will answer my own question and maybe it will be useful for someone else. The wiring to the mirror is switched. It is timed just like the Aux port. It turns off in about 6-7 minutes after you shut the car off and lock it.
Anyone looking to install a mirrortap here is a good guide on how to do it. The fitting of the leads is not as tight as I would have liked it. It had to be secured with electrical tape to keep consistent good contact but it works. https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1556366 |

Bringing this back to life as I'm loathe to start threads about the same subject...
I initially tried the mirror tap procedure. After dismantling all the pieces and tapping the wires it dawned on me there was no room for the V1's plug or extra cabling. I packed it all up and ran the cord under the headliner and down the "A" pillar into the fuse box. After unsuccessfully following the YouTube on which fuse to use, I tried fuse F63. That is a switched circuit, so with the add-a-fuse installed I now have my V1 up and running. It was actually easier to run the cable to the fuse box than I envisioned. |
