LCI M550i - Secondary Cat delete

As per title, has anyone taken these out yet? There's no sensor on them, therefore no CEL for pulling them out.

Not sure what country you are in but will that fail it's safety pollution checks?

In the U.K. a car has o have these undertaken every year once it reaches 3 years old and I'm sure it would fail on that.

Just flagging ….

Well I had them out today, the car builds boost much faster and finally sounds the way I want it to. Dropped two tenths from the quarter mile time on dragy as well. Highly recommended it!

Where are the secondary cats?

Were they clamped on or did you have to cut and weld?

I saw your draggy run. Stickier tires and you'll shave another tenth easily.

Great run for 3 pounds boost. .

I wonder if secondary cats help without extra boost? You’d have to think so.

They are the cans at the top. They contain a ceramic core it seems. I would take a sound clip but I’m off with the family for a holiday in Ireland today!

They are a cut and weld job, I can take some better photos next week. The car is faster with less boost, turbo is having a much easier life without opf and secondary cats. Just need to figure out why the jb4 is messing up 4th gear shift points now.

Anyone know if removing the secondary cats would affect NH inspection? There’s still 2 other cats right!? I had a C7 GS and removed the secondary and never had an issue, but those were hidden behind aero plate, which they never removed.

Quick image of the cats, they are bigger and denser than on the M5. If I get time tonight I will make a sound clip.

I didn't think they had two sets of cats!

This is awesome!!

Please post a vid when you can! I searched YouTube and found some older N63's with resonator and 2nd cat delete and it sounds super messy. Like an old sloppy V8 lol

Sum of changes are: secondary cat delete, opf delete and resonator delete with X pipe. Under load you can hear the turbo spool and recirculating valve hiss by virtue of BMC filters and air box foam removal.

Gotcha. So no tail pipe turbo noise? That's what I'm wanting.

I think you will also want to delete the primary cat for that effect

That sounds good. I get lots of crackles with just a resonator delete on mine when changing down gears and when revving. I didn't hear that in your video? Did yours ever do that? Mine only did that after resonator delete.

Also what/where is the opf?

Thanks

I think only Audi have introduced OPF equipped cars to Australia so far.

No pops and bangs due to Euro5 complaint software either. All I can say is FU EU!

Thanks for the reply. TBH the pops and bangs are annoying sometimes. If the valves are open to get that burble the popping and crackling in the shopping centre carpark sounds a bit stupid. On the road it's awesome. Perhaps when we get proper tunes available then I can adjust that.

I do like the idea of secondary cat delete, but might lower and do suspension stuff first.
