Square vs staggered set up

Hi Guys,

Thinking of dumping my 759i 20 inch rims and moving to 18 inch all year round.

Some of my local roads are terrible, so the ride on the 20 inch good years is poor and am stick of replacing tyres (3 in the last year) with 5-6mm left cause of side wall bubbles.

Obviously I understand the reason for staggered set up, larger at rear for grip etc, however my question is.. with X drive, is there really any advantage over a square set up ? Is staggered really only needed for pure RWD models ?

I don’t think I noticed any different while using my square winter set up, just not only is it cheaper, but you can swap tyres round etc, so long term it would be a more sensible choice ?

Was thinking of Michelin SSP4 245/45/18 all round on BMW 634 alloys

If you don't notice the difference, then it won't matter. Get the 18" and be happy with the comfort and cost savings although those 18" are quite pricy imo..

If you have the MSport calipers, 18" will not fit.

18 inch fit fine over my blue M sports callipers, it’s the recommend size by BMW themselves.
