Not sure if anyone here took delivery of 540 msport LCI yet, but I test drove one with the msport package today, basically identical car to my 2018 msport 540xi. The car I test drove did NOT have msport, optional exhaust, yet it was noticeably louder than the exhaust on my car (outside the car) it even popped a few times when I revved it. It is impossible to make mine, pre LCI, to make any popping sounds.

Don't get me wrong this was not popping and crackling on the m340 or 840 or m850 level but it was definitely something that my pre LCI does not do at all. Again, the car had msport package but did not have the msport optional exhaust.

Anyways, it was a big surprise to me. Folks who know both cars, can you please comment? What's your impression?

I have a LCI 540 coming with the optional MSport Exhaust. I'm excited to see the difference. My 17 540 was too quiet for my liking.

Do you happen to know if your msport exhaust will be installed in the factory or at the dealer after the car is delivered?

I am assuming your new car is a factory order.

To be honest I am not sure when it will be installed. My Sales Rep said it may be Port installed.

Yes it is a factory order. And when I checked online it doesn't list it in the features so I'm guessing it will be installed after.

Yeah, I think it will be dealer installed too. I am also on the market for a new ride. Not really sure what I am gonna end up in but I am between 840xi coupe, 540xi msport and the m550.

The new one will be the B58 tu engine revision, it that shouldn't make a massive sound difference ! If anything, I would expect the newer ones to be quieter not louder.

Perhaps you're has deposits and needs a good Italian tune up

If the M Performance exhaust is available For new cars in the US, does that mean you guys don’t have the new particulate filter that we have fitted to EU models?

I’d love to be corrected, but I don’t think there’s an M Performance exhaust available for LCI models in the UK yet.

This is a very short take of that exhaust in sport mode, but fast forward to 4:00. Kinda, sorta what I experienced. NO way I can get that sound in my MY18 540xi msport.

I dont know what's going on with exhausts US vs EU but here's a thread from the 8 series forum:

The M performance exhaust is for sure available for MY21 5 series in US. I think that's what mdavis3 will have on his car. This is not what the car I test drove had though. The car I drove had the msport package "only".

Like everything about it but the digital dash. Prefer the 2017 traditional layout. Needs HUD.
