2023 M550i high oil temp

Oil temps run between 244-257F (coolant 174-186F, perfect).

I bought the race valve oil cooler from Gintani, but I can’t find where/how to install. The old location right next to the oil filter isn’t there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

On normal driving? If so, that doesn't sound right for a 550. A 2023 should be under warranty so I'd have the dealer look at it right away. It could be a faulty sensor or worse yet, a problem with the oil circulation.

Normal driving. I’ve heard oil temps run high in the N63 per design via the stock oil cooler valve. I don’t think it’s broken. I’m monitoring it with the JB4. Have you seen your oil temps? Thanks

Mine don't get much above 225 in normal driving. Maybe 230-240 max.

Interesting.

Curious, does your oil filter housing have the fitting bolt that allows access to the oil cooler valve? Mine doesn’t.

Hmmm, I don't think so. I've changed the oil a few times and don't recall seeing any bolts on the filter housing. Do you have a photo or reference that I could check?

This is a screen shot of all the vehicle temps during me ripping from 3rd to 5th. It's stays around 250f/120c oil temp as that's what the car is designed to run at for emissions these days. The thermostat isn't fully open till 290f/145c. Please leave your car alone!

Here’s a pic of an earlier n63, the gold bolt holds the oil cooler valve. My 2023 is missing this. After further research, the newer n63’s are missing this bolt. I’m thinking I’m out of luck.

Oil temps that are this high are extremely hard on oil longevity and the engine. If I can drop those temps by 20-25F, both the oil and long term health of the engine would improve. But apparently it may not be possible anymore on the newer n63’s.

I already switched to Liquid Moly Molygen 5w40 for better high temp protection. Like everyone, even with an extended warranty I’m concerned about future bearing life.

I thought Gintani states that the oil cooler valve isn't for newer g30 5 series. Tstat valve and oil cooler valve are for older models.

I did a custom tstat from Bavlogic on my m850 and it helped.

My coolant temps range from 164F to a high of 186F, basically perfect.

Yeah, I believe you’re right about the oil cooler valve. Thanks.
