Looks awful. Why would someone buy this over a Model Y?

For example when i showed to my sister who took a liking to it and she is probably the demographic they are targeting with this type of car.
For me i would prefer an Sedan any day over a SUV but my sister think "The bigger, the more expensive car = the better" and this is a large part of companies demographic like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche are targeting. Another example is i know people who bought the Ix 3 over the Tesla and i asked why? Tesla is the obvious choice but their response is "Tesla is old news" or "Everybody drives a Tesla" or "Teslas cars doesn't look special enough" So i am not surprised the way BMW has presented some of their models like this IX in this manner. 1. It Stands out 2. Its massive 3. BMW Badge 4. Expensive 5. Luxury But if i were to choose anything in my city to se on the streets i would choose the IX any day over seeing people use X5's X6's with the M diesels engines i rather se those people drive around town in BMW IX then they can have their enormous cars but also at the same time have 0 local carbon emissions. Dislike the nasty chlorine smell from modern day diesel cars. Better them be petrol then diesel. We shall se how well this car sells, some people will love this type of car with just the right amount of range. For example if we are going to talk about certain people here in Sweden we have a lot of successful internet personalities who today drives around in big hybrid cars and they will probably buy a car like this and at the same time show it off to all their followers so to speak, i think BMW is on to something when it comes to the IX only time will tell how well they hit the nail so to speak.

Why do electric cars need to be so minimalist inside ? What's wrong with a binnacle and a centre console?
Tesla isn't the be all and end all so I wish other manufacturers wouldn't keep giving us their "take" on one |

Absolutely not.
For example, headlight tech in Tesla is like 10+ years behind BMW. And you don't need to pay $10,000 for auto park and auto lane change. And FSD would probably not materialize or approved in the foreseeable future. And they don't even have CarPlay. |

1. Headlight tech: I coded anti-dazzle on my X5. It was spotty at best. Turned it off. The laser lights are good, but in the US they are limited to 60%. However, poor headlight performance has never been an issue on our Model Y. Ever. 2. Auto pilot comes standard with Tesla Model Y. It does everything that BMW has as on option in their Driver assist package. While, I agree that $10K is too high for their Full Auto Driving (which it is not). The overall implementation of what you get now is way ahead of anything I have seen on a BMW. Trust me, it is not close. 3. CarPlay integration would be great to have on a Tesla, but the overall infotainment UX is a cut above iDrive 7 (even if iDrive itself is excellent). Tesla's own integration with the iPhone is some ways is better than CarPlay and has features that CarPlay does not. Again, one has to use the touch screen control of the Tesla to understand how good the tech implementation is on a single screen. 4. The seats, don't have luxury materials but are very comfortable for long trips. It has been engineered for comfort and support and does not cause fatigue. I have the top line leather/luxury trim seats on my X5 - and the Model Y seats are still better for long drives. 5. Range and performance for the $. Tesla is still on top…yeah, that is harder than putting laser on headlights. Having said all that, I just preordered an iX because of the overall interior design and package compared to the Model X. So we will be remain a BMW and Tesla car family. That's my 2 cents worth. |

This was posted in the i4 forum by sward.
Auto Motor & Sport in Sweden did a comparison test of 6 EVs. BMW iX3 was the surprise winner, last place was Model Y. 1. BMW iX3 2. MB EQC 400 4matic 3. Jaguar I-Pace EV400S 4. Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge 5. Mustang Mach-E AWD Long range 6. Tesla Model Y Performance If even the iX3 can do well against competitors, there is hope for the potentials of iX and i4. |
